Love with a Chance of Drowning
Love with a Chance of Drowning | Torre DeRoche
13 posts | 10 read | 12 to read
New love. Exotic destinations. A once-in-a-lifetime adventure. What could go wrong? City girl Torre DeRoche isn't looking for love, but a chance encounter in a San Francisco bar sparks an instant connection with a soulful Argentinean man who unexpectedly sweeps her off her feet. The problem? He's just about to cast the dock lines and voyage around the world on his small sailboat, and Torre is terrified of deep water. However, lovesick Torre determines that to keep the man of her dreams, she must embark on the voyage of her nightmares, so she waves good-bye to dry land and braces for a life-changing journey that's as exhilarating as it is terrifying. Somewhere mid-Pacific, she finds herself battling to keep the old boat, the new relationship, and her floundering sanity afloat. . . . This sometimes hilarious, often harrowing, and always poignant memoir is set against a backdrop of the world's most beautiful and remote destinations. Equal parts love story and travel memoir, Love with a Chance of Drowning is witty, charming, and proof positive that there are some risks worth taking. "If I could give it ten stars out of five, I would. I loved every single page--Torre's writing is hilarious, beautiful, poignant, and engaging--which is to say nothing about the fact that this is her TRUE story!" --Jenny Blake, author of Life after College "In Love With a Chance of Drowning, Torre DeRoche has given reluctant adventurers, romantics, and lovers of beautifully-told tales a compulsively good read. I was positively swept away by this large-hearted, hilarious story about how deeply and unexpectedly a person can be transformed by love." --Suzanne Morrison, Yoga Bitch

Mehso-so

I learned about DeRoche from friends who were circumnavigating with their kids several years ago. I followed her blog, so I knew the basic outline of her story and what happens after the book. She has some interesting---and some funny---adventures, but knowing how the story turns out, I couldn't help but assign greater significance to some of the events and interactions. Basically, it's a quick memoir that doesn't make me want to sail.

TheBookHippie NEVER. I loathe water and this book freaked me out! BUT I did enjoy it! (edited) 2y

Lcsmcat If you see a pipe cleaner at the nose and mold it to fit, then put your glasses over the mask, they will fog up less and you can wear them. 4y
TheBookHippie @Lcsmcat I tried to mold it as best I could ! Going to try to adapt it a bit I don‘t go out at all in public. I just drive up and open back for grocery but put it on to distribute food six feet from folks .. I‘ll see if I can bend it better! Thanks! 4y
Lcsmcat @TheBookHippie I‘ve been making masks for my kids and their spouses, and ALL of us wear glasses. It‘s a pain, but the pipe cleaner helps. 4y
mollyrotondo Ooo Happy Birthday! My mom has a May birthday too that we celebrated tonight through FaceTime. Hope you have a nice bday! 4y

#LMPBC GroupV @suvata @Princess-Kingofkings @TheBookHippie @Sward7 Of all the choices that I presented, this is the one I had the least interest in reading. Surprise! This #DollarTree find was thoroughly enjoyable and the author‘s wry humor had me laughing throughout. I hope all of you in the group will enjoy it. Mailing out in the next few days. 3/5🦺s

Actually, the first line(s) is a quote from Joan Crawford.

“Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house, you can never tell.”

I think this would be an awesome cross-stitch sampler. 🔥🔥🔥

I'm making very little headway in far too many books--and this was after deciding to wait until my audiobook comes in to read Sing, Unburied, Sing and pretty much giving up on the idea of getting to Lillian Boxfish this month. 😫
