No Offense
No Offense: A Novel | Meg Cabot
17 posts | 19 read | 10 to read
New York Times-bestselling author Meg Cabot's returns with a charming romance between a children's librarian and the town sheriff in the second book in the Little Bridge Island series. Welcome to Little Bridge, one of the smallest, most beautiful islands in the Florida Keys, home to sandy white beaches, salt-rimmed margaritas, and stunning sunsetsa place where nothing goes under the radar and love has a way of sneaking up when least expected... A broken engagement only gave Molly Montgomery additional incentive to follow her dream job from the Colorado Rockies to the Florida Keys. Now, as Little Bridge Island Public Librarys head of childrens services, Molly hopes the messiest thing in her life will be her sticky-note covered desk. But fatein the form of a newborn left in the restroomhas other ideas. So does the sheriff who comes to investigate the abandonment. When John Hartwell folds all six-feet-three of himself into a tiny chair and insists that whoever left the baby is a criminal, Molly begs to differ and asks what hes doing about the Islands real crime wave (if thefts of items from homes that have been left unlocked could be called that). Not the best of starts, but the mans arrogance is almost as distracting as his blue eyes. Almost... John would be pretty irritated if one of his deputies had a desk as disorderly as Mollys. Good thing she doesnt work for him, considering how attracted he is to her. Mollys lilting librarian voice makes even the saltiest remarks go down sweeter, which is bad as long as shes a witness but might be good once the case is solvedprovided he hasnt gotten on her last nerve by then. Recently divorced, John has been having trouble adjusting to single life as well as single parenthood. But something in Mollys beautiful smile gives John hope that his old life on Little Bridge might suddenly hold new promiseif only they can get over their differences. Clever, hilarious, and fun, No Offense will tug at readers heartstrings and make them fall in love with Little Bridge Island and its unique characters once again.

This was a really cute story with a librarian, a Sheriff, and a small town all trying to "help" him solve a case. I liked this one better than the first in the series. Mainly because it wasn't written in first person so you got to be in his head as well as hers. I prefer that. I felt the first half was better than the second, but it's a sweet and cozy romance which is my thing so I stuck with it. ❤️ #romance #sweetromance

Meg Cabot clearly adores librarians. She takes pains to show how radical the institution is, especially when it comes to radical kindness. Unfortunately, this book is also goofy AF - & not in a good way. 🙈 The characters are named things like Molly Montgomery, Dylan Dakota, & Tabitha Brighton (even aside from the alliteration, the place name formula is silly). Molly often uses words like “simply” & “surely” in everyday speech. Low-medium heat. 🔥

monalyisha On a personal note, I almost stopped reading because of the way the details align with my life. I‘m a Children‘s Librarian, as is Molly. But instead of dating a cop, my (step)DAD is a cop — and not only that, but a cop who supported my interest in dance (just like this cop supports his daughter‘s interests in the same). It was a little uncomfortable. Maybe I should be thankful that the steam level was lower than I typically want from a romance. 😅 10mo

The romance moved too quick in my opinion. The characters knew nothing about one another and neither did we, the readers.

Has anyone read either of these? I got them from husband‘s grandmother who believes the mark of a successful woman, is that she has a man in her life, and that my husband is a saint for loving me despite my health issues. (Yes, I realize that‘s a generational thing). These sort of fit the “lighter reading” I‘ve been looking for. I‘m just frustrated by her old school ideas that seem to be a theme in both of these books.

Moonprismpower I looked them up. They both sound okay although I‘m not the romance type. Good luck maybe they‘ll turn out better than you think? I‘ve read other Meg Cabot books and she‘s not bad But also maybe gift your grandma with one of your books 😉😉 3y
smalldogs_bigbooks2419 That‘s an interesting idea! I‘ve definitely got lots to get rid of. Will definitely be adding to the trading doc over time 😊 (edited) 3y

Fairly proud of my May bookspin bingo board. Wasn‘t really sure what I was doing LOL so I started with 20 books, reading all but 3.5 of them. No life-changing books, but all enjoyable reads! Now, bring on June! @TheAromaofBooks

Eggs Great job ❣️❣️ 3y

DNF'd at 20% because Molly is immature, arrogant, & unprofessional. She doesn't do anything about the teen being inappropriate at an event for small children (other than call her male colleague in to take care of it). But she berates John, the sheriff, for doing his job. Plus there was no chemistry. John should run away from her.

I tried to push through knowing the end would be happy, but I just couldn't stand Molly one more irritating second.

Leftcoastzen Don‘t hold back , tell us what you really think.👏😃 3y
Maria514626 @wanderinglynn I wish I would have read your review before I started listening. 😱 Totally agree about Molly. And John is played—at least in the first hour—as some dope who has to remind himself not to look at a woman‘s butt. (He just had sexual harassment awareness training. But hey! He‘s the one who brought the training to the department so that‘s good, right?) Off soap box. 😄 (edited) 2y

Not up to her usual witty and light hearted writing. It was ok but forgettable.

A children's librarian and a sheriff living on a tourist-heavy Florida key come together after someone abandons a baby in the library bathroom. Romance ensues, aided with pie. #romantsy

BethM I have this from the library right now but I need to get another book club book done first! 4y
CocoReads I‘m reading the first one right now and enjoying it—but romcoms are my jam right now. 4y
ReadingEnvy @CocoReads it‘s not bad, just not stand out. Who are the characters in the first one? 4y

ReadingEnvy @BethM what is your book club reading? 4y
CocoReads @ReadingEnvy it‘s Bree and Drew. I read the prequel earlier today on my kindle and it was just so so as well but this one is holding my attention very well. 4y
BethM Im in a few postal book clubs here- so I have a cozy mystery, a paranormal, and a historical/sci fi to finish up! 4y

A cute contemporary romance set in the Florida Keys. The recently divorced sheriff has a meet cute with the town‘s new librarian when she discovers an abandoned baby in a bathroom. It turns out to be the second in a series but I didn‘t feel like I was missing anything. A fun beach read!

A cute romance which was basically a romcom in book form. Local librarian falls for the sheriff.

Fast and cute - not enough tension to be a true pick, but I can‘t turn down a book with a children‘s librarian as a protagonist. This was a fast read for me - 2 days.

I really enjoyed everything about this book......except for the heroine, Molly. She was super naive and annoying. And that‘s a problem, a big problem, since she‘s integral to the story. Also, super disappointed more book 1 characters weren‘t in this book except in a passing sentence or two.

Nothing mind blowing with this book. It was a light and quick read. I am a sucker for books with a library or bookstore setting.
