12 posts | 9 read | 13 to read
The author of the suspenseful, atmospheric, and completely riveting (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) debut The Winter Sister returns with a darkly thrilling novel about a woman who comes to believe that she has a connection to a decades old kidnapping and now that the victim has gone missing again, begins a frantic search to learn what happened in the past. When Fern Douglas sees the news about Astrid Sullivan, a thirty-four-year-old missing woman from Maine, she is positive that she knows her. Ferns husband is sure its because of Astrids famous kidnappingand equally famous returntwenty years ago, but Fern has no memory of that, even though it happened an hour outside her New Hampshire hometown. And when Astrid appears in Ferns recurring nightmare, one in which a girl reaches out to her, pleading, Fern fears that its not a dream at all, but a memory. Back at her childhood home to help her father pack for a move, Fern purchases a copy of Astrids recently published memoirwhich may have provoked her original kidnapper to abduct her againand as she reads through its chapters and visits the people and places within it, she discovers more evidence that she has an unsettling connection to the missing woman. With the help of her psychologist father, Fern digs deeper, hoping to find evidence that her connection to Astrid can help the police locate her. But when Fern discovers more about her own past than she ever bargained for, the disturbing truth will change both of their lives forever. Featuring Megan Collinss signature dark, tense, and completely absorbing (Booklist) prose and plenty of shocking twists and turns, Behind the Red Door is an arresting thriller that will haunt you long after you turn the last page.

This book has two problems. One this book takes an unreliable narrator to a new level, and two almost everyone in this book is horrible. Fern sees a news story about a missing woman and realizes that she knows her but can't remember how. What follows is Fern trying to get through her repressed memories and a slew of nominations for worst parents ever.

Fern Douglas returns home to help her father pack up his house for a move to Florida and the visit unlocks some long-buried memories. Easy to read but sort of annoying. I liked her book The Winter Sister better.

EadieB This is a dark and disturbing story which is plot driven and character driven. It is a very well-written book with twists that were unexpected. If you like dark thrillers then you will love this one. I‘m now looking forward to my next Megan Collins book. (edited) 2y

This novel about repressed memories and trauma was creepy and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Please be aware that if you have ever been in a relationship with a narcissist, you will probably be triggered.

I‘m a sucker for a good kidnapping story and this was no exception. Some of the twists were a smidge unbelievable, but sort of in the way that horrible things always seem to be beyond the realm of possibility. I was hooked from the first page to the last. And the descriptions of anxiety? Spot on. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley

Another great thriller! Fern goes back to her childhood home to help her dad pack up to move. As shes there, Astrid, a child kidnapped twenty years earlier, goes missing again and Fern is determined to figure out why she knows her. Once again my gut feeling was right all along but there were still some great twists and turns.

I know you all love a good psychological thriller. You should read this one. I couldn't put it down. I felt compelled to find out what was going on.

A woman who was kidnapped 20 years ago disappears. When Fern sees her on the news she knows that she's seen her before. When the girl's face appears in her recurring nightmares, Fern decides to unravel the mystery. Why does she know her?
