Mayday!
Mayday!: A History of Flight through its Martyrs, Oddballs, and Daredevils | David Darling
6 posts
The wonder of flight has long captured the human imagination. In this beguiling history ranging from the first aircraft to astronauts and beyond David Darling tells the stories of the true-life adventurers whose wonder has translated into bizarre contraptions, magnificent achievements, and, sometimes, startling folly. Readers will discover outrageous attempts to fly like a bird and fall from the edge of space, as well as meet Napoleonic ballooniste Sophie Blanchard and her daredevil husband, the real X-Men who flew the supersonic experimental X-planes for the U.S. Air Force, stuntman Lincoln Beachey looping-the-loop in a pinstripe suit, and, of course, The Rocket Man himself: Yves Rossy, who in 2006 was the first person to cross the English Channel using a jet-pack. Eccentric and reckless, Darlings daring cast of dreamers is guaranteed to entertain and inspire.

Man, May was a weird reading month for me. Most books were meh and even the ones I liked were pretty dark. Had to pull out a cozy at the end to refuel my reading energies
🚫bailed on 3 books: 2 #roll100 titles and my #bookspin (unheard of for me!)
✅read my third #roll100 title
✅read both my April and May #doublespin books
✅read #foodandlit buddy read
✅read 1 #authoramonth
✅6/8 were from my TBR 🥳

julieclair Yay for cozies! Sometimes they're just what we need. 2y
sarahbellum @julieclair they really are ☺️ 2y

Here‘s the books I read in May. This was my first time using a random letter generator to pick what to read. I requested Believe by Julie Mathison from #voraciousreadersonly in April and I forgot to add it to my May TBR. I also finished reading Dangerous Women this month. I started it in April and finished it in May. I also forgot to add it on to my May TBR. I had a lot of fun using the random letter generator this month.

This is a summary of my reading in May, didn‘t do very well in the #SeparatedByAPondTour or #ReadingEurope2020 Both affected a bit by libraries being shut and what is available online.

Favourite books :
The Sun Down motel by Simone St. James #BOTMBuddyRead
Divine Justice by David Baldacci Librarything Group Read
The Cutting Place by Jane Casey

MsMelissa What‘s the separated by a pond challenge? Apparently we need to find you more Canada-related books 😊 4y
Andrew65 @Book_Fiend_Melissa I most definitely do need more Canadian books. It‘s where we are trying to read books that visit different states / provinces / counties etc in USA, Canada, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, N.Irleand. In other words those countries either side of the Atlantic. http://www.librarything.com/topic/314898 (edited) 4y
MsMelissa That‘s funny! I just posted the idea of doing a read Canada challenge as I haven‘t come across one yet. 4y

Andrew65 @Book_Fiend_Melissa I created this challenge for a group on Librarything over Christmas and included Canada as not read many books set in Canada. (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks I didn't add too many to #SeparatedbyaPondTour either - too many books set in not-real places!! 😂 4y
Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Or those authors that don‘t mention a place 😡 (edited) 4y
Geenee You are my new role model. @Andrew65 😂 4y
TheAromaofBooks Right?! How hard is it to say where your characters are!?!??! 4y
Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Or are too generic. One mentioned New England without saying which state, another mentioned the Cotswolds without saying which county. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @Geenee Spent a number of years trying to increase the amount of reading I do. Used to be just one or two books a month and built from there. I blame these book sites.🤣 4y
Geenee @Andrew65 yea, me too. 🤝 4y
