Sorry I Missed You
Sorry I Missed You | Suzy Krause
A poignant and heartwarming novel about friendship, ghosting, and searching for answers to life's mysteries. When Mackenzie, Sunna, and Maude move into a converted rental house, they are strangers with only one thing in common--important people in their lives have "ghosted" them. Mackenzie's sister, Sunna's best friend, and Maude's fianc--all gone with no explanation. So when a mangled, near-indecipherable letter arrives in their shared mailbox--hinting at long-awaited answers--each tenant assumes it's for her. The mismatched trio decides to stake out the coffee shop named in the letter--the only clue they have--and in the process, a bizarre kinship forms. But the more they learn about each other, the more questions (and suspicions) they begin to have. All the while, creepy sounds and strange happenings around the property suggest that the ghosts from their pasts might not be all that's haunting them... Will any of the housemates find the closure they are looking for? Or are some doors meant to remain closed? Quirky, humorous, and utterly original, Sorry I Missed You is the perfect read for anyone who has ever felt haunted by their past (or by anything else).

3 women move into an old house that Larry inherited from his aunt and converted into apartments. They receive a letter one day that they don‘t know who it is for asking to meet them at a coffee shop. It turns out they‘ve each been ghosted by someone in their lives so they start going to the coffee shop together each hoping the person who ghosted them will show up. They also start hearing strange noises coming from the attic. 👻👻/5

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m paying better attention to who I am as a reader, and it is becoming clear that I am drawn to (and most enjoy)character-driven novels. For about a third of the book, this one seemed to check a lot of my boxes in that regard…but then it felt to me like it wanted to be plot-driven? I never truly connected to the characters and it felt like there were a lot of underdeveloped plot lines, so I never invested there either. Not bad, not great.

Started this convinced it was "not my thing" & ended up really enjoying it. It's quirky, hilarious, poignant, surprisingly deep and it has ghosts. And 3 fabulous MCs that on their own are great - well drawn, distinct, convincing back stories, satisfying journeys. But together they are just wonderful - they spring to life with all their flaws & hurt & hopes. The dialogue between them is done so well. And as for "the ghosts" .... ????

Starting this one tonight. Although my eyes are so sore from studying on a screen today, they feel like they've been pickled and I really should let them rest.

But to misquote Bon Jovi, I'll read while I'm alive and sleep when I'm dead 😉

DLQBOOKNERD I know we don't know each other but anyone who quotes Bon Jovi is my soul sister ❤️🎤🎶🎸 2y

Soubhiville @monalyisha I‘m interested in Snow Flower. I posted 2 stacks, but I plan to post more in the next few days if you don‘t see anything there that sounds good. 😊💕📚 3y

brooklynnsbooks The magicians has been on my TBR for the longest time!! How did you like it?? 3y
monalyisha @brooklynnsbooks I *love* the book series! This is a graphic novel version, though, called “Alice‘s Story.” I really didn‘t like what I watched of the tv show. 3y
Just_reading Love this idea! Makes me wish I hadn't cleared out most of my books during the past year...grr! 😜 3y

I read this for a book club with friends. I ended up liking it more than I expected to based on the synopsis & the first few chapters. It‘s actually very sweet & the characters grow on you as they learn how to become better friends to one another & to themselves. I also laughed out loud quite a few times! There‘s some wit in there! The mysteries aren‘t very mysterious, however. And I don‘t think it‘s a story that will stay with me.

monalyisha Again, this (like my last read) is a pick but not an overly enthusiastic one. I love that it so thoroughly passes The Bechdel Test, & I love that there‘s a dip into the ethos of punk rock (& how it helps with anxiety; this is my husband ALL the way). But like I said, I just don‘t think it has a permanent place in my brain or in my heart. It‘s also possible that I‘m just in a mood. 🤷‍♀️ (edited) 3y
monalyisha I do think Mackenzie‘s story was a bit muddy. It seems like it was told clumsily in an effort to preserve the mystery. 3y
peanutnine I felt the same way about this one. Good, not great 3y

Three women who have been “ghosted” rent apartments in an old, renovated home. They become unlikely friends and allies in solving the mystery of some strange happenings that occur after they move in. The last few chapters of the book have some insightful thoughts about “ghosting” that I will think about for a while. I read this book because my teenage daughter loved it and wanted me to give it a try. I‘m glad I did!

Finished my #bookspin book for October! @TheAromaofBooks

This novel is light, and fast. The story follows three very different women who have all been “ghosted.” They all move into a rental property, that the owner inherited from his aunt. Framed as a mystery, this unlikely trio grow to become friends as they attempt to get closure and discover who is making all of those strange noises! ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Quirky book with a satisfying conclusion. Read it if you know what it‘s like to be ghosted-the book‘s message is strangely therapeutic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#QuarantineRead 11: Such a fun and quirky read. Every character made me smile. Though this is written as a mystery, it‘s more about the individuals telling the story.
