The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus
The Haunting at Bonaventure Circus | Jaime Jo Wright
8 posts | 8 read | 8 to read
1928 The Bonaventure Circus is a refuge for many, but Pippa Ripley was rejected from its inner circle as a baby. When she receives mysterious messages from someone called the "Watchman," she is determined to find him and the connection to her birth. As Pippa's search leads her to a man seeking justice for his murdered sister and evidence that a serial killer has been haunting the circus train, she must decide if uncovering her roots is worth putting herself directly in the path of the killer. Present Day The old circus train depot will either be torn down or preserved for historical importance, and its future rests on real estate project manager Chandler Faulk's shoulders. As she dives deep into the depot's history, she's also balancing a newly diagnosed autoimmune disease and the pressures of single motherhood. When she discovers clues to the unsolved murders of the past, Chandler is pulled into a story far darker and more haunting than even an abandoned train depot could portend.

I enjoyed it, when I got in the groove of it. I feel like I‘m almost disappointed in the ending. Like I‘m not but I‘m not quite fulfilled and I feel like I have questions that don‘t need answers for the book to be whole. But good book of family, found and biological.

Have you read any good circus-themed novels? I just blogged my reviews for 5, including this time-split one.

I liked the idea of this book- serial killer and also circus life. But the writing sort of dragged for me. And I didn‘t understand a lot of choices the main girl in the current timeline was making.

Split time novel about 2 women, one in the late 1920's and the other today, trying to find themselves. Mystery and suspense. Great read.

Awesome book. Split time. A favorite suspense novel. Tells the story of 2 females trying to find their place in the world. One struggles with where she came from and the other struggles with estrangement from family. All while chasing "ghosts" at the Bonaventure Circus home base.

Such a beautifully penned split-time novel with a huge helping of suspense! Jaime Jo Wright never fails to hold you captive with her lyrical writing, raw emotions, and palpable anticipation. The slow build-up to the murder that happened in 1928 at the circus and the disappearance of a young woman in 1983 is well-done and the details are impeccably intertwined. The plot is complex but still easy to follow, with plenty of surprises along the way.
