This story received the “Golden Kite Award“ and is definitely a story I would incorporate into my classroom library. The moral of the story is to remind children who are marginalized that they matter and will always matter. This story was empowering and made me hopeful for future generations.
Golden Kite Award - I think this book does a great of getting through to children and letting them know in their “terms” that THEY MATTER. I feel like the target audience here is towards people that feel insignificant & this book is here to help remind them and boost them to know that they matter and empower them to keep going. — Published on October 6th, 2020

Golden Kite Award
This book is a must read for elementary classrooms this year and always. Addressing difficult topics like equality movements, social justice, and systematic racism can be incredibly difficult to navigate as a teacher, but the realities of the world do not go unnoticed by children. This quality resource helps address these topics.

#InspiredNewYear Day 8: I find picturebooks like this #charismatic, riveting, and much-needed. Rather than ending up as a superficial, pat-in-the-back, hollow motivational message – both author and illustrator foregrounded the uplifting message as one that is inextricably woven into a history of marginalization and continuous oppression. New book alert! Beautiful book with a very important message! ❤️📚
