The Haunting of H. G. Wells
The Haunting of H. G. Wells | Robert Masello
10 posts | 6 read | 7 to read
A plot against England that even the genius of H. G. Wells could not have imagined. It's 1914. The Great War grips the world--and from the Western Front a strange story emerges...a story of St. George and a brigade of angels descending from heaven to fight beside the beleaguered British troops. But can there be any truth to it? H. G. Wells, the most celebrated writer of his day--author of The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man--is dispatched to find out. There, he finds an eerie wasteland inhabited by the living, the dead, and those forever stranded somewhere in between...a no-man's-land whose unhappy souls trail him home to London, where a deadly plot, one that could turn the tide of war, is rapidly unfolding. In league with his young love, the reporter and suffragette Rebecca West, Wells must do battle with diabolical forces--secret agents and depraved occultists--to save his sanity, his country, and ultimately the world.

This was a really good fictional book about the author H G Wells in W W I. There were ghosts, germ warfare, Aliester Crowley; it was excellent 💚

This was a interesting blend of real people and history with fiction. It was a little slow at first but picks a bit after the author sets the stage for the rest of the book. There is a lot of history in this book which I enjoyed. There was some mystery and also paranormal elements but I truly expecting more in the latter area given the title. We do get that but it takes a bit to reach it. Overall it was enjoyable. So my rating is 3.4 - 4 ⭐

Review:
This book would of been better if the Prologue and Chapter 1 weren't so boring. I loved the characters and storyline.

I'll read more books by this author I just hope they all don't have a slow beginning!!

I enjoyed this book but it was long at times and personally I enjoyed Massello‘s Einstein Prophecy more. The author excellently weaves historical fact and fiction in his books. It is like a history lesson for me, with real people (H.G. and others) and events during WWI. This book is a mystery/thriller with a bit of paranormal. Overall it‘s a pick for me, and I will read more from this author.

This is one of the First Reads from Prime this month AND they‘re also offering Welcome to the United States of Anxiety. I couldn‘t decide so I got one for free and pre-ordered the other. I guess they‘re making up for last month‘s choices not appealing to me at all.
