A graphic novel based on Ronald Dahl‘s dark and funny novel Witches! “Witches are real, and they are very, very dangerous. They wear ordinary clothes and have ordinary jobs, living in ordinary towns all across the world -- and there's nothing they despise more than children.” Great illustrations by Penelope Bagieu

This is definitely my favorite Graphic Novel adaptation so far. I remember the movie and book growing up so it was a nice little trip down memory lane. The artwork is fun and bright. The grandma was especially cute. It also told the story just as well as the original book.

It's actually cooler and has been pouring down rain all day here. So I've been outside reading the graphic novel version of The Witches and listening to the rain

I appreciate Dahl's story being explored in a different format and the artwork in this was really fun. It didn't quite work for me though because some of my favorite parts were missing.

Young kids though will enjoy this one. It has the feel of Dahl's original but with a fresh, modern look.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Slightly updated, but true to the original story (which I just read for the first time recently). Super fun art and vivid coloring brought these quirky characters to life. Grandma was very cute, and her appearance quite perfectly fit the grandma stereotype, which made me laugh. I mean, she‘s in her 80s, so it made sense. The Grand High Witch was delightfully creepy when the mask came off. A fun adaptation!

Here are a few pics @JenniferEgnor - I love the illustrations! It‘s a fun adaptation.

vivastory I've never read the book. For the longest time I thought that the 80s movie Witches of Eastwick was based on this...🍒 3y
britt_brooke @vivastory I only read the original novel for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Loved it! 3y
vivastory I'm planning on reading a collection of Dahl's “mature“ stories soon. It'll be interesting to see what Netflix does with the rights to his works 3y

JamieArc I‘m planning on reading this version this weekend. I really like Bagieu‘s work. @vivastory Which book of stories? I read Kiss, Kiss years ago and it shocked me a bit, just because they were definitely different from his books for kids. 3y
vivastory @JamieArc It's called Skin. It has a snake tattoo on the cover. 3y
britt_brooke @Amandajoy Here‘s a glimpse of the inside. I love the artwork! 3y
britt_brooke @JamieArc Hope you enjoy! It‘s a fun adaptation. 3y
britt_brooke @vivastory I‘m hoping to read more of his kids‘ books soon. 😅 I can vaguely remember James and the Giant Peach from childhood, but I‘ve not read anything else. My 9 year old read The BFG in school last year and loved it, so maybe I‘ll go for that next. 3y

Chiming in with my picks for the today‘s prompt of “witches.” I‘m currently working my way through A Season with the Witch; it‘s a nonfiction book that explores how Salem has built a tourist industry based on the witch trials and what it‘s like to spend an October there. I also hope to read Dahl‘s The Witches at some point before the month is over!

bthegood I am also reading the Ocker book - it is not a fast read but I am finding it very interesting - a lot I didn't know about Salem and the Witch Trials - hope you are enjoying it too - 3y

My last few reads from last week. Not Christmassy, but all the covers were blue, so festive! 💙

Holiday books with the kids saved my point total this week! I‘m in love with Epic! My 3-year-old now climbs up on my lap, grabs my phone and says, “Book!” Best present ever!!

Update: I did bad math last night! My total for Week 2 is actually 5,040 — not 3,520 — bringing both weeks to 8,377!

this book/movie scared me as a young kid! I‘m so happy to see it as a graphic novel. Love when classics are “reintroduced”!

JamieArc I found this two weeks ago and had to snatch it. I really love this author‘s work. This movie terrified me as a kid - in particular when the girl goes missing and ends up in the painting. I decided to see if it actually was as terrifying as an adult and I was proud that I could watch! I didn‘t have to cover my eyes and didn‘t have nightmares! (edited) 4y
