Hooray, The Happy Hollisters are back! First published in 1953, these charming mystery-adventure stories, faithfully reproduced, are now available in paperback for the very first time! Written for boys and girls between the ages of six and twelve, The Happy Hollisters are wholesome books, with an accent on humor and good, clean fun. Integrity always pays off and right wins over wrong. Parents, grandparents, and teachers will love these books for their healthy celebration of life in simpler times. Kids will be thrilled with the fast-paced action and will not want to put them down. This is a perfect gift for the young reader in your life! *** The Happy Hollisters The adventures for the Hollisters begin as soon as they move into their new house on the shore on Pine Lake in Shoreham. First, the moving van carrying their toys and their father's important new invention disappears. Next, they learn that their house may be haunted, with a treasure hidden somewhere inside! Right away they all set out to solve these mysteries. Each one of the Hollister children - Pete (age 12), Pam (10), Ricky (7), Holly (6) and Sue (4) - plays an important role in finding clues, along with their parents who are always ready to join in on the excitement. Even Zip, the collie, and White Nose, the cat, are part of the family, and find thrilling adventures of their own. As the Hollisters explore their new town and make friends, they discover what happened to the moving van, and learn more about the mystery surrounding their new home. Excitement abounds when a secret stairway is discovered. Then, on the trail of a mysterious intruder, their chase leads them to a deserted hut on nearby Blackberry Island. Over seventy action-packed illustrations make the story- and the Hollister family- so vivid that the reader has a feeling of really sharing in on the adventures of this lovable and interesting family.

#SchoolSpirit

I was thinking about my grade school #Library & the books I used to check out. Some of the earliest were The Happy Hollisters, my first of many mystery series. I remember bringing them home when I was pretty young & my brother “testing” me on them because he didn‘t believe I could read/understand them because he wasn‘t a good reader. 😂
It‘s actually his b-day today, so I pick them in his honor! 😆

Day #2 #7Days7Books These books were special to me because I received them in the mail – kind of like the #BookOfTheMonth club books. I remember being so excited anticipating and receiving these!

LeahBergen Oh, I didn‘t know you could receive these by subscription! 5y
tpixie @LeahBergen yes! Way back in the dark ages! It would have been late 1960‘s / early 1970‘s 😆 (edited) 5y
DebinHawaii Thank you for tagging me. 🤗 I could list these on my 7 books as The Happy Hollisters books were a big part of my childhood. 💛💛💛💛💛 5y
tpixie @DebinHawaii I loved them also! 💕 5y

Growing up, my viewing and reading choices were highly curated by my mother to be as “wholesome” as possible. Not that the books weren‘t good - The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, Cam Jansen, Narnia, Choose Your Own Adventure, and the tagged series The Happy Hollisters, just to name a few - but it is funny to see how my reading has evolved....👇

LiterRohde The above named books in childhood to get me hooked, classics (for fun, not assignments) in middle and high school deepened my love of language and the human condition, existential and philosophical texts in college to hone my critical thinking and challenge my accepted paradigms, and now, in adulthood, though I read many things (though I tend toward Stephen King and SciFi) I believe I seek out texts that do all of these things....👇 5y
LiterRohde One thing I‘ve been told I need to get better at is just reading for frivolous fun. Maybe I‘m saving that phase for old age?! 5y
DebinHawaii I adored The Happy Hollisters growing up & checked them all out of my grade school library. They were my entry into mysteries & they & the Bobbsey Twins were quickly followed by Encyclopedia Brown, Trixie Belden & Nancy Drew. I have picked up a few copies at used bookstores & still see the charm. 🤗 5y

Freespirit I loved Nancy Drew and Tricia Belden books😍 5y
LiterRohde @DebinHawaii @Freespirit Yup. Trixie was on the “approved” list for my childhood reading as well. Never read The Bobbsey Twins. (edited) 5y
erzascarletbookgasm I loved all that you mentioned too, except I‘ve never read Cam Jansen or the tagged series. Loved the Bobbsey Twins and Trixie Belden too (in fact, loved Trixie more than Nancy 🤷‍♀️) 5y
Eggs These books look so fun! 5y

Pickpick

I grew up on the Happy Hollisters & plowed through all the books when I was in first grade. My brother who had challenges reading, didn't believe I read as fast as I did & would quiz me on the books.😆When I found them on Kindle Unlimited, I thought I'd reread a few. Definitely dated (what I'd expect from a book first published in 1953) & reading them on an e-reader lessens the charm-but still a fun, quick nostalgic read.❤️Happy Aloha Friday! 🌺

Jamesmelvinmitchell I love being able to mentally look back on those great books. 😁 (edited) 7y
Mdargusch You always post the best food photos! 7y
DebinHawaii @Jamesmelvinmitchell Me too-it's always fun to revisit them. 🤗 7y

DebinHawaii @Mdargusch Aww... thank you! I do love my food. 🤣😋 7y
staci.reads We found HHs at Mystery Mtn, HHs and the Mystery at Missile Town, and His Mystery of the Little Mermaid at a used book store last year and my husband had to have them for our bookshelf. I had never read them, but he said he read them from the school library when he was a kid. I was just happy to see him excited about any books 😊 7y
DebinHawaii @staci.reads Fun! I have a couple of them at home too but not the first one. Ahh...nostalgia! 🤗 7y
mcipher Oh man I loved those weird bunches of twins! ☺️ 7y
llauraff In Spain they were translated as “los hollister” without “happy” I don‘t know why. I read a few and I love them (edited) 7y

Jess_Read_This Oh!!! ❤️❤️❤️I just love the dustjackets on this series! It really was perfect timing. (edited) 7y
LeahBergen I just saw some today! Are there any that you are looking for still? 7y
elkeOriginal @LeahBergen You are sweet! I just gave my short list to friends as xmas hints so don't want to screw that up. But it does seem like Midnight Trolls is hard to find under $100 so if you spot that one miraculously underpriced, give me a shout! 7y

Adding to my childhood faves shelf one (and two) titles at a time...neither of these titles are in the Litsy database though. I chose the Punch & Judy just because of the cover 😬

DebinHawaii I remember both covers-especially the Punch & Judy one! 📚👍 7y
