Book bans have exploded so much recently in the US that I couldn‘t figure out how to pick just one #FavoriteBannedBook from the list. Last year there were more than 2500 bans and this year is shaping up to be even worse. A surprising number of the bans are spearheaded by political lobbying groups and reflect reflect or impact proposed local legislation. #MarchMagic @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

dabbe I had a shirt that proudly stated “I teach banned books,“ and I would wear it on the 1st day of ANY book I was introducing that had at least once been on the ALA's Banned Books' List (SPEAK, HUCK FINN, OF MICE AND MEN, CATCHER IN THE RYE ...). Then I'd praise our district to the students for allowing us to read great literature. Since retirement, books have been banned due to some parents, and my “eyes burn with anguish and anger“ (Joyce). 13mo
IndoorDame @dabbe what a perfect way to highlight the issue at school! 13mo

Jensol77 Bridge to Terebithia ❤️❤️ 2y
CatLass007 @Jensol77 I have read about half the books on this list, some more than once. But I‘ve never read Bridge to Terabithia. It‘s my intention to read or re-read every book on this list. I know that‘s a tall order. Maybe I will make this the year of the banned book for myself, if no one else. 2y

Reggie The Kite Runner is on this list? Why? 2y
CatLass007 @Reggie I have no idea why any of these books are on this list. But I plan to be defiant and read all the ones I haven‘t read maybe reread the ones I already have. I‘m not really fond of big brother telling me what to think. 2y
Reggie That makes me sad. But good luck to you on your journey! There are some gems on here. 2y

I recently saw on Facebook a list of banned books. I do not know the source of this list, but I‘m posting. Is anyone organizing a banned book group or club or whatever? It doesn‘t have to be from this list. I live in East Tennessee, probably the most backward place in the country. In Middle Tennessee there‘s big hullabaloo about banning, even burning, books. The school board pulled MAUS by Art Spiegelman from the middle school curriculum.

wanderinglynn I haven‘t seen anyone post anything lately about a banned books read. But I‘d definitely join one! 👍🏻 I usually do a dedicated banned books reading challenge during Banned Books Week in September. https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks 2y
CatLass007 @wanderinglynn Thanks for the link. I‘m going to see if we‘ve got any more people interested. Maybe I‘ll try to organize one. Although I really would like help from someone who has worked on one before. 2y
