Gorgeously packaged with intricate illustrations from Finnish illustrator, Sanna Annukka, this new edition of Hans Christian Andersen's well-loved fairy tale, "The Fir Tree," is the perfect holiday gift for adults and children alike. Hans Christian Andersen's tragic tale of naive greed and dissatisfaction is retold through the striking and contemporary illustrations of Finnish illustrator Sanna Annukka. Cloth-bound in rich forest green, with gold foil embellishments, "The Fir Tree "is elevated from a children's book to a unique work of art andmakes an ideal gift for people of all ages."

A story aimed at children, focusing on living life at a normal pace and not trying to grow up too fast.

TieDyeDude Sounds like a nice read. 3d

A sad fairy tale about being careful what you wish for because you just might get it. The audio production was fabulous - although short, it had a full cast and sound effects.

A pine tree wants nothing more than to become a Christmas tree and get decorated. When it happens it may not be what it hoped, and maybe it was happier before?

3rd book for #DashingDecember

Finished my Reading Women Challenge today, the 4th and final task list for 2019. Never again will I overcommitt to so many challenges, but rather focus on reading from ny TBR shelf.

Reading Women's Challenge 2019: Read a book published before 1945

Fun perspective but like many (all?) Hans Christian Andersen, and Grimm tales, sad and disheartening.

Thank you @CherylDeFranceschi for this beautiful book. I haven't read this before and really enjoyed it. It's the story of a little fir tree 🌲that realises too late that it didn't appreciate the grand moments of life whilst they were happening.

Lacythebookworm Lovely little book! 😊 8y
CherylDeFranceschi I'm so happy you like it! 8y

By the time I was half way done reading this, my child was passed out on my lap. The illustrations are what drew me into this book. They are amazing. So beautiful. But, let me tell you. So depressing. I was thinking that I was glad he missed the ending.

I didn't get much reading done yesterday, but we got Christmas card pictures taken, picked out a tree and set it up (still not decorated though), got the decorations up around the house, and I ordered Christmas cards, and the Grandparents calendars and books on Shutterfly. I love this book in the middle of great stories I've read to the kids over the years.

christineandbooks Love all your Santas ... I collect them too. 8y
Cortg @christineandbooks my mom gave me her collection last year since she's comes for Christmas. They're the ones I grew up with. 8y
DebinHawaii @Cortg @christineandbooks I echo the Santa love. I collect them as well. ❤️ 8y

Moving fable by Hans Christian Andersen which illustrates the old adage, "be careful what you wish for…" This one will also make its way to both my personal and classroom libraries. Thanks, NetGalley, for introducing me to Sanna Annukka's work!
