My favorite embroidery books

Eyelit Timely post - I‘ve been thinking of learning embroidery. Any of these good for absolute beginners? 6y
eastbaykate Love Rebecca‘s book - her‘s also comes with a real cloth sampler to start practicing on. Any embroidery dictionary is helpful. I found YouTube videos the most helpful when I first started. Some diagrams in the books were a bit confusing for me. Hope this helps @Eyelit 6y
Eyelit Thanks! 6y
Johanna414 I might have to look some of these up! I haven‘t had time to do much embroidery since having my son, but I used to love it! You‘re giving me the embroidery bug... 😉 6y
eastbaykate @Johanna414 - hope you can find some time. Sometimes I have to wait until night to embroider which can be tricky with the lighting...I found a booklight that can clamp onto my hoop which has been a life saver! 6y

This was one of my last books for 2018. I rather enjoyed this book. There were a few nights that I stayed up way too late reading it to see what was going to happen. The characters were complicated and had issues which made them relatable. I also felt like the geography was it‘s on character. I definitely have a sweet spot for France

I am really enjoying the second book. I really love the covers for both books. I love that Holmes is a girl and that there is chemistry between Holmes and Watson. I'm enjoying the European setting. I wish there was a little less angst, more details about disguises and sleuthing. I'm almost done and am looking forward to see how it wraps up...love the BBC Sherlock so I thought it would be fun to have some fun paper for this.

I really enjoyed this fun book...I stayed up until 2 AM to finish it. There were parts that I really enjoyed(a dress that is magical and seems to have a mind of its own, the magical world where it takes place, and Julian). There were a few parts that I wish were stronger (more information/story about the clues, other contestants, etc.). I read it in a day because I was caught up in the story. It's not an all time favorite, but I'd read it again!

I thought this book had potential but it fell a little flat for me. I didn't really bond with the characters. I thought the main character wasn't as strong as I would have liked and the ending was kind of bland. I did like the parts in the bookstore. There was a bit of chemistry with another character that I kept hoping would develope but ended up being a little lackluster...

I really liked this little read. I love the idea of finding a little blurb in a newspaper and writing a story about the person. I enjoyed reading about Mata Hari's transformations in order to survive. I truly believe she was way ahead of her time and the consequence of her survival was her down fall. I love this photo on the cover! That head piece is amazing. I really loved the epilogue. I've decided to read a lot of spy stories in January.

I liked this book. I am a fan of dystopian novels. It was a darker read than what I normally read. I don't want to write too much about it and spoil the twist and turns. The ending had a good twist that made me 🤔. I really liked the the narrator's friendship with Penelope and the wolf.

Joybishoptx I ALMOST put it down because I thought the wolf was going to die but I had to know what happened. 7y
eastbaykate @Joybishoptx - I totally understand...I almost put the book down when she was mean to the wolf and went with Penelope! The ending made me happy that they were reunited. 7y
Joybishoptx @eastbaykate Yeah although I thought killing the child was a little over the top. But I still really enjoyed the book. 7y

My first book finished in 2017! I rather liked this book. I'm a sucker for a book about London, books, and libraries...so, it was an easy like. There is enough to the story line to remind me a little bit of Harry Potter which was lovely. There were parts of the story I found a little light and wanted more details, but for the most part I couldn't wait to read this each day...and I even ignored my children at times while reading it ...

I really enjoyed this book. It was such a unique, magical, love story. I have to say the Bonner girls reminded me of girls that would have gone to The Bauxbatons Academy of magic...unfortunately, they would have probably been supporters of Voldemort. They were so EVIl! I am struggling with this book. I feel like I have one eye on the book and the other on the dictionary. Some paragraphs seem to move along smoothly, and others are so clunky. At times, I wonder if the author had a thesaurus sitting next to her while writing this book. I also haven't connected with any of the characters. Fingers crossed that I start to feel engaged with this book! I hate to bail on books especially ones about magic.

I really enjoyed this book. After the first few chapters, I wasn't sure I would like this book. I wasn't really connecting with the characters. There was even a character that reminded me of Umbridge from Harry Potter that I was struggling with. Sometimes I don't want to read about evil people. I'm so glad I stuck with the book. I was really engrossed in the story by the end. Looking forward to the next one. #giveascarybook #allhollowsread
