I really liked this one in the beginning. I loved the concept. I thought it was really interesting and the characters grabbed my interest right away. But, I did feel like it drug on a little bit and started to lose me about halfway through. It felt familiar and like something I had read before. I got bored in spots and wasn‘t as excited as I had hoped. Ending was good and it wrapped up nicely. Just okay for me.

I liked this book! The premise grabbed me right from the beginning but I can't say it was 100% on-board at first. That said, I ended up really enjoying it. There were a lot of underlying messages that resonated with me. In the end, 3 generations of women found a way to empower themselves even if I felt the career move for Chelsea was a bit outlandish! It was a fun read! Also, I listen to the audiobook because I got it on a 2 for 1 sale.

Right now, I'm working my way through this audible book that I got in a 2-for-1 sale. So far, I'm pleasantly surprised! It's pretty long and I'm just getting into the meat of it. Will update with a review when done!

I should have bailed on this early on. The only way I finished it was way speeding up the audio. A pandemic that causes people to turn violent brings 3 generations of women together to reconcile with the violent controlling g men who have damaged their lives. Too many polemics explained ad nauseum for me, too much telling rather than showing. Premise could have made for a great book. #Scarathalon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick

Another pandemic breaks out on top of the COVID pandemic in which everyone starts violently killing each other. This story was brilliantly done because of the character development. The book was 500 pages and I didn't want it to end. Trigger warning for domestic violence. The author does a good job explaining in the introduction why she wrote it that way and where she comes from.

It's post-Covid, and the world is in the midst of a new pandemic: the infected black out and kill anyone nearby. Chelsea and her daughters, though, have been living with a man who has always been violent. The story is unique and interesting but could have been told in less pages. The characters are dynamic but not all equally fleshed out. 3.5 stars

I really liked this one! It's like Anthem meets The Power meets Nightbitch maybe? Idk. I really connected with Chelsea & Emma. Having left an abusive marriage & working in a male dominated career that is especially misogynistic, I definitely "felt" this book. I'd recommend reading trigger warnings before picking it up. ⭐⭐⭐⭐?

This was a story about the lengths women will go to in order to protect their families, the generational trauma of abuse, and the systemic problems enabling abusers, wrapped up in a post-Covid dystopian novel. I found myself holding my breath and devouring it in order to make sure the women we followed kept themselves safe. This was a good book to read, especially now.

An incredible book. Weaving together speculative horror with character drama, this book is both a page-turning thriller and an exploration of feminine perseverance, strength, and power — that which is buried deep, and that which can be reclaimed.

A gritty dystopian centered around a virus that causes the host to violently kill others randomly. Set in near present day, this gripped me. With several references to the Covid epidemic, there were points where my stomach turned at the realism. But let me tell you...I was hooked. The plot is a bit of a pulp fiction style slasher & I ate it up. The writing was great & the characters realistic. Be forewarned: there is a lot of graphic violence.

In the wake of COVID, a new and very different kind of pandemic has begun to spread... one where unsuspecting carriers of the virus suddenly and violently attack anyone who happens to be close at the time. Chelsea seizes the opportunity to escape her abusive husband, and the roller coaster journey that she and her daughters then find themselves on is wild. I very much enjoyed the character development, overall originality, and timely subtext! 4⭐️

I've been cool as a cucumber for the most part, but it's starting to hit me a little bit 😢

The title is very straightforward as to what to expect in this book!

In 2025 a new pandemic comes on the heels of covid, but this time it's a disease that causes sudden uncontrollable bouts of intense violence. Against this backdrop, an abused woman, her daughter, and her mother improbably find empowerment.

I really enjoyed this book! The flow was steady nothing crazy or fast no twists or anything! The violence follows after the Covid pandemic! It‘s cause by a mosquito bite you black out and rage then when you click back to yourself you have no memory! Great storyline great characters and great world building 🌟🌟🌟

This is a gritty novel that features the darkest parts of the human experience. The author kept The Violence from getting too grim by including some campy elements and references to current pop culture. Overall, this is a book that is hard to put down. There are plenty of disturbing scenes but it‘s also a story about family, resilience and being true to yourself.

This book was a crazy, creepy, and relevant read! It‘s like the Pandemic on steroids! The Violence spreads through mosquitoes and causes those infected to “storm” and rampage and then remember none of it. It has a powerful woman protagonist (Chelsea) who has been abused by her husband for years. Enough said. I cried, I laughed, but ultimately I loved the take on love and healing!🥰

This book is getting some major league blurbs—I see you Stephen Graham Jones—& having read it, it‘s easy to see why. Stuck in abusive marriage, a link in a long chain of generational violence & trauma, Chelsea Martin seizes her opportunity when a pandemic, which has people breaking out it sudden fits of murderous rage & violence, sweeps the country. This is the feminist horror novel you didn‘t know you needed. On sale 2/22.
