As indicated by the first line, the reader can tell all is not right in this short story. All the scientists can say is that maybe something passed by and that is why there is this hellscape on earth. We follow Johnny and Brenda in a small Nebraska town as they try to survive their new reality where gravel can become quicksand, people can combust, and rooms can contain different dimensions. As always, there is heart in McCammon‘s horror which👇🏼
This was a great collection of stories. My favorites are Night Calls the Green Falcon and Blue World. I look forward to checking out more books by this author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Like most short story collections, there are a couple of very good stories, ones that are okay and some that aren't so good. This one is no exception, it's a mixed bag.
I'd still recommend though because there's a few crackers in here! 😁

Another #BookSpinBingo square marked off this month. @TheAromaofBooks
Robert McCammon became a favorite of mine after reading Swan's Song. I felt this was a strong collection of stories that showcased McCammon's writing style well.

July has been a horrible reading month for me - I‘ve only finished one book. 😟
I decided to try this collection of short stories from one of my favorite authors. Maybe it will kick me out of this seemingly never ending reading slump I‘ve been in. 😒📖
#getmovin In the short story, The Red House, 18yo Bobby Deaken wants to leave Greystone Bay,to not live in a grey house amongst all the other grey houses, and to not work the same factory job his dad has had all his life. Then, the house across the street gets painted red and the Sikes move in. Mr.Sikes will encourage Bobby to discover the world. Bobby‘s dad, so threatened by change will, the red house, #burnittotheground while all the Sikes 👇🏼
The novella that anchors this collection of horror stories is about a priest, a porn actress, and the serial killer that stalks them both. There's a part where the priest could have slept with the porn actress but he doesn't. The teenager I was at the time was shocked when I read this. I was struggling with things at the time. I still think about this story years later, that with such a writing decision, the author could #takemetochurch.
I don't recall many of the short stories, 'The Pin' has never left me. The novella is quite good also
