Always a sucker for John Grisham and this is not exception. Classic Grishman, worth the read.

Finished my first John Grisham book last night! Gifted to me by my middle child ( It was very good .. childhood buddies .. good vs evil! Totally recommend!

Completed 2023…. First book of this author that I‘ve read. Started out extremely SLOW!!!! Lots of scenarios characters and somewhat draggy …. Does however get a little better …. Give it a C. Actually second book of his…..

I was honestly disappointed with this novel. It is such a slow build to the climax of the narrative, which was a bit of a dud. Its such a long novel that covers so much time, but to me a lot of the background was either unnecessary or overly detailed. There also seemed to be so many tangent storylines that, to be, did not seem necessary. I did like the determination and drive of many of the characters.

I usually fly through a John Grisham book, but I found this one to be slow. It did pick up about 65% done. I don't think it was one of Graham's better novels, but that's just my opinion.

💜I have meet it, actually over. 92/85 so far. I may get a couple more read before the new year.

💙 It's going to be cold 🥶 here in Arkansas, so probably stay around the house for Christmas, except for going down the road to in-laws for Christmas.

This story of childhood friends, two boys from Biloxi, who choose very different career paths was both compelling & engaging. Grisham really knows how to spin a yarn and this one was quite a showpiece. It‘s a slow burn but the final confrontation is an epic showdown!! I do think 50- 100 pages could have been whittled down but narration by Michael Beck is so outstanding that I didn‘t mind those extra hours listening to him.

Hmmm, I glad I have a few days before assigning my stars to this one. I‘m still deciding between a so-so or a pick. The story of Keith vs Hugh was good. I liked their origin stories and how they got from their grandfathers to their fathers to where Keith and Hugh stood on the final page. But I had little interest in the supporting characters used to build the story.

John Grisham is always an easy read. Two childhood friends go separate ways on either side of the law. I didn‘t feel that the characters were fleshed out and thing seemed to fall into place too easily for the good guys. 🫤

I was an avid Grisham reader when he first burst on the scene, and I‘ll admit part of that was probably because he had a home in Oxford (20 minutes from my childhood home). I loved his early writing, but somehow fell behind after The Runaway Jury. So I was happy to have the chance to read this arc for his latest coming in Oct. It centers around two very different families living along the MS Coast (1960s-1980s), the Rudys and the Malcos. 🔻
