Red Country
Red Country | Joe Abercrombie
A New York Times bestseller! They burned her home. They stole her brother and sister. But vengeance is following.Shy South hoped to bury her bloody past and ride away smiling, but she'll have to sharpen up some bad old ways to get her family back, and she's not a woman to flinch from what needs doing. She sets off in pursuit with only a pair of oxen and her cowardly old step father Lamb for company. But it turns out Lamb's buried a bloody past of his own. And out in the lawless Far Country the past never stays buried.Their journey will take them across the barren plains to a frontier town gripped by gold fever, through feud, duel and massacre, high into the unmapped mountains to a reckoning with the Ghosts. Even worse, it will force them into an alliance with Nicomo Cosca, infamous soldier of fortune, and his feckless lawyer Temple, two men no one should ever have to trust . . . RED COUNTRY takes place in the same world as the First Law trilogy, Best Served Cold, andThe Heroes. This novel also represents the return of Logen Ninefingers, one of Abercrombie's most beloved characters. Another darkly funny, violent adventure in the First Law world. This standalone does feature characters from the original trilogy, but can be read on it‘s own. A woman and her family friend arrive home to find her siblings gone, and her home burned to the ground. They set off to find them find friends and even more enemies along the way. In true Abercrombie style, you will love the characters but not like them very much.⬇️

Nessavamusic Best Served Cold is still my favorite of the standalones, but this was a solid story, if a little slow to start. 4⭐️ Another #bookspinbingo! @TheAromaofBooks (edited) 10mo

Trying to complete the First Law books before I delve into Abercrombie's much anticipated return to this beloved universe (A Little Hatred came out in September).

Red Country is installment 6 and does not disappoint. Because Logen Ninefingers is back!! Nuff said 😍

But seriously, if you like Westerns with a bit of fantasy, great dialogue and plenty of fun and adventure, this book gives it to you.

I have yet to read he trilogy this book spins off from and unfortunately, I read Best Served Cold before hand. This one was enjoyable but no where near as good as BSC.

Sigh. I've been poking at this forever but it doesn't hold my interest. None of the characters speak to me, and I can't figure out what's makes this fantasy??? So I am putting it down.

I really wanted to love this book, but I just didn't. All of the elements for a great story were there good characters, good setting, plenty of good action, dialogue, and humor but it just didn't quite work. This was my book club read for the month and sadly 3 stars is probably a generous rating.

"Still her mother used to say, you're best off looking for the best in people, and it was good advice even if the woman had never taken it herself."

Love this quote and my bookmark is pretty awesome too.
