This was not the average National Trust house either. They‘ve owned it for years but it‘s only been open to the public for a few years. This is the kitchen - where you can get a cup of tea and take it over the house with you (because most of the furniture isn‘t original to the house) and look at where Hardy wrote.

#17booklove #authorilove I love so many authors that it's impossible to have a favourite but Thomas Hardy started me on my journey of love for literature so will always be special ❤️

lynneamch Yes, I treasure my copy of Tess that I bought in a little London bookstore when my high school English teacher took us to Europe so long ago (1969). So lucky to have her as a teacher. 💖 8y
DeborahSmall @lynneamch lovely! Most my Hardy collection were Q9 classic buys when I was only 15. I have a couple of nice poetry collections. I'd like to start collecting the hardback collection? 8y
Hamlet Hardy is one of my favorites! I only read him out of school, but once I found no him, I couldn't stop. Great novelist & poet! 8y
DeborahSmall @Hamlet me too, my parents friends couldn't believe I would read Hardy for pleasure, when they knew I wasn't reading him for school. 💞 8y

In high school we read 'Return of the Native' which began my love for Hardy. Then in college we studied some of his poetry specifically the elegy he was asked to write following the sinking of the Titanic. It starts out fine enough but ends with him talking about wasted wealth and rotting corpses under the sea (if I remember correctly). I've been a fan of his poetry ever since. #augustphotochallenge
