It almost never happens - actually, I can't think of a series I ever did that - that I go and read the next volume immediately after finishing the first book. But here? I really did not want to part from Nigel and Oscar. It felt like we didn't have enough time together, so I went and got volume two. And love that one too. There's just everything in it I love and need right now. So why wait?

lil1inblue I loved the first book. I'm hoping to sneak this one in this month. 🖤 3d

I'd still love more depth on Chris and Tina, but just as the first book dug into Nigel's background, this one digs into Oscar, which is a lot of fun too.

I'd forgotten this one doesn't have much about Patricia and what she wants; I'm very curious about that. Looking forward to the third book, which I haven't read before!

I don't usually do seasonal reading, but it's fun to have the reminder/excuse to revisit.

willaful I never used to but Litsy has converted me! For October anyway... I still don't like holiday books much.

We get a bit more C&T in the third though not in a very compelling way. (To me, so far. I'm a bit more than halfway through.)

Faranae Litsy has also converted me. Participating in the events makes gives me a perfect excuse to reread favourites that happen to be seasonal. 😁 (This is also a good mental health thing because I tend to scold myself for re-reading instead of reading new stuff otherwise). 1mo

Another scary paranormal adventure, with queer romance, for the team from The Forgotten Dead. More at my blog: https://willaful.wordpress.com/2025/01/08/rattling-bone-by-jordan-l-hawk/

Trying to catch up points and posts for #HauntedShelf for team #Flerken!

2 words, R for @texreader's #HalloweenAtoZbingo 22 readathon or bingo squares including #BodyDoubleReadathon and #CozyReads #31by31 plus 1 medium #PumpkabooHunt and a move on the #promptmaze, a book cover...

Book rec: chilly night, paranormal, jump scare, snuggles, series. Read The Forgotten Dead first! It's actually a CHRISTMAS book if you want spooky for December. ;)

PuddleJumper 🎉🎉 Brilliant! 13mo
willaful I'm annoyed at myself for not remembering this would fit for Winter Games... 10mo
Faranae @willaful It was even on my re-read list for the holidays, but I only got a couple of those in and this didn't number among them. 10mo

#MidYearBookFreakOut Saw @willaful post this and went a little mad.

1 I'm bad at choosing.

2 Is it? Maybe, I dunno.

3 Willaful put it on my TBR

5 I'm still mad.

6 TENTACLES?!

7 New to me!

8 I want Jerry to be my friend.

9/10 I think half the gay novels I read in February and March made me cry happy tears, & I think Dawn just made me depressed but not cry so close enough.

11 Rattling Bone was the only book I received (I did not buy any).

willaful You're easy to send over the bend... 😂 2y
Faranae @willaful I'm just perpetually 500 yards from the turn 😂 2y

April for the #URC2023 added 8 romance novels. Eventually I'll have to do at least one book that isn't a romance novel, as I don't think the Hurston goes to romance ever. I tagged Jordan L Hawk's newest book since I thought it was great and I couldn't review it for Octocon (there's an on-page sex scene, though not as explicit as his other books). I'm going to run out of books by this set of authors, though, so suggestions welcome!

willaful Awww, boo on the Hurston then.

Have you read Everina Maxwell?

Faranae @willaful To be fair to the Hurston, they do at least nominate and sometimes award SFF, which is more than most serious literary awards are willing to do.

I have not read Maxwell, I think I possibly have Winter's Orbit on my TBR?

willaful I liked both a lot but you could skip to the second. It's meatier. 3y

“The smell of dusty books common to all libraries rose up as they stepped through the door. Nigel took a deep breath, even though the dust made the inside of his nose tingle. Tension slid from his shoulders, as though he had come home from a long journey.“

Nigel is extremely relatable. Also yes, I couldn't resist finding a picture of a creepy Florida live oak and enhancing it, even if it's much shorter than the one in the book.
