What the Hex

Enemies-to-lovers has never been more enchanting in this witchy romantic comedy from the New York Times bestselling author of Go Hex Yourself. Penny Roundtree wants nothing more than to be a familiar to a witch. Shes been a member of the Society of Familiars ever since she was old enough to join the Fam. Theres just a small problemno ones hiring. Witches and warlocks are so long-lived that there are far more familiars available than witches to train them. So when an unorthodox arrangement to apprentice under the table to a forbidden warlock presents itself, she takes it. Willem Sauer is banned from having a familiar due to past transgressions, thereby limiting his magic-casting abilities. Unfortunately for the surly, Prussian warlock, he has no choice but to work with enthusiastic Penny as a familiar. They immediately clash like dried roan horsehair and honeycomb gathered by moonlight (its a terrible spell combination, ask anyone). Casting spells has delightful perks Penny never could have dreamed of, but also greater dangers. Someone is targeting Penny. Willem and Penny must work together to catch their enemy, and if their ploy requires a little kissing on the side, who is to question the rules of magic?

Mehso-so

I'm starting my witchy/spooky season reading off with a fluffy one. The story is super cute, but I was throughly annoyed with the way the characters are written and the fact that the spiciness is incogruous with that. It's such a weird combination for descriptions. Not bad, but definitely not great. #52-2024

Quick & fun follow-up to Go Hex Yourself. I didn‘t love it but I liked it enough. It‘s a grumpy sunshine pairing & although Penny‘s immaturity was a bit annoying when combined with her sunshine, she has a pet squirrel 🐿️ which I always love. It also netted me points for #Scarathlon Team #SpookyGhostClub 👻🖤👻including 20 for a spooky/seasonal book + 186 #ScarathlonWordSearch words for 1860 points + 1 for participation. Still need to tally my ⬇️

#AutumnPlease

This pic is from Sunday when after brunch, I stopped by Starbucks drive-the on the way home & got my #FaveFallDrink an iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato 🍎☕️ & spent time with one of my current October reads on Kindle, second in a series. I love this drink hot as well- it‘s just WAY too warm for that right now. (I was on top of my fuzzy blanket.)😅

+6 points for #Scarathlon Team #SpookyGhostClub 👻🖤

Clwojick Mmmm it sounds delish, but I‘m not sure if I‘m a fan of oatmilk. I have seen that you can order an iced apple crisp americano with half and half and that sounds amazing too! 13mo
DebinHawaii @Clwojick I like the Oatmilk because I feel like the slightly oaty taste adds to the apple crisp effect but you can sub in any of the milks or alternative milks in it! I will have to try the Americano. I just despise pumpkin & love apple so this drink makes me happy! 🍎💚 13mo
Eggs @Clwojick @DebinHawaii These drinks sound great🧡🧡 Our weather here is still too warm for hot drinks🥵 13mo
Clwojick @Eggs I tend to prefer cold drinks all year round. My coworkers would laugh at me last winter, when I would walk into work with a tumbler of iced coffee on a -50c day. 🤣 13mo

This is the 2nd book in the series. You probably want to read them in order because this character is introduced in it and the world. Her friends from the first book also show up a lot in this one.

Penny is a familiar without a witch. Her parents are familiars. I liked this book but it drove me nuts how much she complained they don‘t take care of her at 30 yrs old.

Will is a giant stick in the mud but starts to open up and relax more w Penny

Laughterhp I get that her parents didn‘t pay attention to her and she had to raise herself since 16 because they got their matches. And they were really crappy in the one scene their in. But she was still living at home at 30 and expecting them to take care of her… I‘m 33 and haven‘t lived with any parents since I was like 24 and even then I did everything myself. Maybe they did my laundry but didn‘t feed me.. idk it just really bugged me. 1y

This was a charming peek into the world of Witches, Warlocks, and their Familiars. Adorable and clever, the wanna be witch Penny is a delight and when she meets her match in a grumpy, unlikable Warlock who has been shunned by his community, sparks fly. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

This was a cute follow up to Go Hex Yourself, and I really like Will and Penny. There were a couple blatant errors in the beginning. His suit changed from green to blue to green in one scene, and her POV went from 1st to 3rd person. From there, I either got so sucked into the story that I stopped noticing or the editing got better. Overall, a very fun, quick read!
