The Litigators
The Litigators | John Grisham
The partners at Finley & Figg often refer to themselves as a “boutique law firm. Boutique, as in chic, selective, and prosperous. Oscar Finley and Wally Figg are none of these things. They are a two-bit operation of ambulance chasers who bicker like an old married couple. Until change comes their wayor, more accurately, stumbles in. After leaving a fast-track career and going on a serious bender, David Zinc is sober, unemployed, and desperate enough to take a job at Finley & Figg. Now the firm is ready to tackle a case that could make the partners richwithout requiring them to actually practice much law. A class action suit has been brought against Varrick Labs, a pharmaceutical giant with annual sales of $25 billion, alleging that Krayoxx, its most popular drug, causes heart attacks. Wally smells money. All Finley & Figg has to do is find a handful of Krayoxx users to join the suit. It almost seems too good to be true . . . and it is.Includes an excerpt of John Grishams Calico Joe and a special preview of his upcoming novel The Racketeer .

A team of 3 rather bumbling lawyers take on big pharma and their oh-so-competent corporate lawyers in an effort to win a big settlement and get rich. Lighthearted and funny, but also thought provoking. What is - and what should be - the role of lawsuits in today‘s society? Are lawyers more often a force for good - or bad - in the US? Would make a good book club choice.

Delightful, humorous, sometimes exciting, lots of the fascinating legal detail that is Grisham's trademark.

Initially, I wasn‘t super excited about this book. David has a breakdown one morning at work as he‘s tired of working non-stop for a high-end law firm. He impulsively leaves his fancy job and takes up with a small firm of two attorneys who have some seriously questionable ethics in their practice. The legal case involves big pharma and their questionable drug. As the story progressed, I really liked David and was rooting for him. #MountTBR

Well, it may take a lot of October‘s for me to get to the bottom of my thrifted Grisham collection, but I‘m down for it. Including legal thrillers into the books I read has been fun and this one is an easy read. I seem to appreciate all my stories better if I mix up my genres.

Just so-so. This one was lacking the thrill and suspense of so many other John Grisham books. Never really reached a high point and the ending was too tidy.

This was exactly the type of book I needed! Interesting story and characters but low stakes, no peril, no anxiety. Escapism. Totally needed these days

Another fast read. I gave this a "pick" because Grisham has always done a good job of simplifying some of the more complicated legal jargon and mixing it with a "feel good" story line. My complaint is that the plot line follows a trend of his newer books - essentially the exact same story with different names - young lawyer quits the big firm and goes to the small firm life and triumphs. But you have to write what you know.

I am not enjoying this as much as other John Grisham books that I‘ve read. I think part of it is the narration. The tone of it makes almost all of the characters more unlikable than if I were reading it. Anyone else feel this way?

I loved it! Grisham at his finest. I had forgotten how entertaining his books were. 4 stars, because it‘s Grisham. #sixby6/6. 5/6.

Say what you will about Grisham. He is a great storyteller. This is next on my to be finished pile. It‘s about 1/2 finished and I hope to read the rest tonight. #GreatStories.

SqueakyChu My husband is such a devoted John Grisham fan. I think he might have read all of Grisham‘s books...or at least most of them! 7y
Samplergal @SqueakyChu there was a time I devoured them. But I haven‘t read any thing since 2011, according to this book date. He is entertaining. I needed “light” after finishing my last one about the Holocaust. 7y
SqueakyChu I sure do know about “light” after “heavy”. I just finished reading a novel about antisemitism in Serbia, and I really needed a “light” book after that. 7y

I loved this! I have had a lot of stress this month and it took me a long time to finish this even though it was good. This wasn't a difficult read but very entertaining. With Grisham you always know what you are getting into and that is exactly what I needed. 😊

Decided to go with this one next. I wanted something safe and unsurprising but still entertaining. For me there are two writers that fit that category: Grisham and Baldacci.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ As always, John Grisham did not disappoint. His way of weaving a story into something tangible makes me keep coming back to his books over and over. He's a dependable author who never lets me down.

In The Litigators, David leaves the daily grind of being a nameless, faceless lawyer in a big firm to take his chances on a smaller "boutique firm." Grisham combines characters, plot, and intrigue into another solid, movie-worthy novel.

Didn't get a lot of reading done today. Stressful day. But now I finally have a chance to curl up on my favourite chair and read until I fall asleep. I doubt I'll finish the book before I doze off because it's been an exhausting day. But I'll try!
Namaste. ☮

I got a good start on this one today. Good characters, but the plot is a little weak. Knowing Grisham's writing, I'm sure things will start coming together very soon. So far, I'm impressed.
