pickThis book started out slow. I began to doubt that I could stick with it. I‘m so glad that I didn‘t give up. What a read! I learned so much about the Assyrian Empire it seems unreal to me that these times existed at that some of the events described in the story really happened. It seems even more unreal that we‘re able to read about them all of these centuries later. This was a very good book! This young author is excellent.

You follow a woman who started out with nothing but went on to rule an empire. She married a king. She had his child. She became queen....

pickSemiramis was born a commoner in a village in Assyria. Through her own ambition & machinations, she eventually becomes Queen of Assyria.
Casati‘s luxurious scene setting was present throughout the novel & her character work remains unparalleled.We see the evolution of her from an abandoned orphan to the most powerful woman. I did want to see more, & see Semiramis‘s control when she was on the throne, not just leading up to it. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
BOTM got me. I used to get their boxes years ago but stopped when I felt like books were just piling up. I‘m at a place where I‘ve conquered quite a bit of my TBR stack, gifted, or given away to local LFLs….so timing felt right to try it again. We‘ll see if it holds.

I had a hard time narrowing it down this month, which is why I ended up with five picks all together! 🤭 I couldn't resist these two thrillers, and I didn't even know Emily Austin was coming out with a new book! I'm obsessed with her previous books, so I'm really looking forward to this new one! 🩷
pickI read Clytemnestra last year by Costanza Casati, and I thought there was no way she could top that book - boy, was I wrong! Where do I even start talking about Babylonia? The writing is beautiful and lyrical. The characters are so complex, strong, and real. The story is unbelievable.
Can you imagine being an orphan and rising to such fame? Semiramis was this person. No matter how hard life was, or how much it tried to keep her down, ⬇️
