2025 was a very good reading year!

Fun, sort of cozy horror fantasy? Very strong Howl‘s Moving Castle vibes, which is always a good thing. The ending was a little unsatisfying and I felt it could have had more depth, but there is a most excellent talking cat.

Finished this one last week. A slightly darker cozy fantasy, about a kingdom where sorceresses take the hearts or parts of hearts of the citizens to do their magic. Foss is the awkward daughter of the butcher. Her heart is caught up in a spell by a male sorcerer & she follows him to the city to get it back. I liked Foss a lot & loved Cornelius, a talking cat who befriends her. Not perfect but a good diversion & #RedCover

I‘m not that far into this book but there‘s a talking black cat who wants to be called Cornelius. Since the book is supposed to have a Studio Ghibli vibe, in my mind I picture him as Jiji from Kiki‘s Delivery Service.🐈⬛The MC, Foss, likes his purring.
“I‘d never seen the point of #Cats before, really, other than for catching mice, but the warm weight and the peaceful sound were pleasant, and they helped me fall asleep again.”

Spending my Saturday after a crazy workweek being mellow & trying to play catch-up on life stuff. I went to the local monthly makers market this morning & spent too much supporting local.😉Then to the library to pick up a hold & return books & now I‘m at the coffee shop having brunch, checking email & posts & starting the tagged book.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.🤗

I won this book in an Instagram giveaway. I‘m so excited to read it! Look at that cover, those sprayed edges, the stickers the author included! 😍🫀

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“A Harvest of Hearts” is a darker fantasy with gothic vibes and a sweet romance. It was a solid read, but I didn‘t absolutely love the writing and some of characters (excluding Cornelius as he is a precious cinnamon roll of a cat). Be warned as there is a small bit of gore that can be graphic at times throughout the book.

Foss, the butcher's daughter, falls under a spell that makes her leave her home and travel to the city to work as a housekeeper for the hot sorcerer Sylvester, who bespelled her, in his magical house. After lots of cleaning of the house, and lots of incidents in which Foss doesn't deserve nice things because she considers herself ugly, and after lots of languishing about on Sylvester's part, the two have to fight the evil villain, ⬇️

If your a fan of Howls moving castle, then you HAVE to read this book! it's grim dark, intense, filled with horrifically beautiful settings. a dark telling of what really happens when a sorcerer steals your heart. filled with a morbid humor, with flawed and brilliant characters. between the world building, the magic system, and the ending, this book is going to be an absolute obsession. this is a definite must read!
