Toil & Trouble
Toil & Trouble | Mairghread Scott
Something wicked this way comes. The three fates Riata, Cait, and Smertae have always been guiding and protecting Scotland unseen, indirectly controlling the line of kings according to the old religion. When there is a disagreement between the weird sisters, Riata and Smertae will use men as pawns, and Smertae will direct Macbeth to a crown he was never meant to have. This re-telling of Macbeth from the witches point of view is brought to life by Mairghread Scott (TRANSFORMERS: Windblade, LANTERN CITY), and illustrated by talented duoKelly & Nichole Matthews.TOILANDTROUBLEbrings a new and inventive take on the tragedy we all know and love."

Macbeth as told from the weird sisters POV. These ladies have been watching over and protecting Scotland for ages. When they disagree over who's next in line for the Scottish throne, it sets a course for ambition, greed and tragedy.

I'm only passing familiar with The Scottish Play, but that's ok... I think that this graphic novel is good for Skaespeare lovers and newbies alike. It adds to the story of Macbeth, but it also stands alone quite well imho. Really enjoyed this one.

TsundokuAleax Honestly the play kinda serves as a backdrop for what happens with the witches. But it is fun to see their stories along with how it fits into the dynamics of the play. Glad that you found it and liked it. 8y

Book 1 of my #icestormreadathon #Icepocalypse2017

*But please don't knock out power to my house cause it's hard to read in the dark.

LindsayReads Ooooh, I almost bought this the other day at SC because it has stayed with me. Macbeth is on audio through Hoopla, too! (I listened to it right after reading T&T.) Can't wait to hear what you think! 8y
Keyoung @LindsayReads I loved it!! Sometimes the action/magic got a little confusing or unclear, but Macbeth was my first Shakespeare and has always been my favorite. I still have the 👁✋🏽🔪 soliloquy memorized (had to perform it in high school) and I loved the twist on it here 8y
LindsayReads Yayayay!!!! I loved the essays at the end, too. Did you see the movie that came out about a year and a half ago? I thought it was really well done. 8y
Keyoung @LindsayReads The Fassbender one? I haven't seen it yet. 8y
LindsayReads Yeah! That's the one. It also has an interesting interpretation of the Weird Sisters. 8y

This was such a great read. A retelling of sorts of Macbeth from the perspective of the witches. It is such a great re-imagining of the story and how the events of the play come to pass.

Tsubame I'm really getting into graphic novels these days and this one looks like I'll like it a lot! ^^ 8y
TsundokuAleax @Tsubame There are so many great ones to check out. If you have a 2nd &Charles near you, they usually have a decent selection. Also if you have a comic shop with a good staff, they can usually give good suggestions. I have found some bad ones and don't go back to those. 8y

Fantastic concept, well-researched, deftly executed. This perspective on Macbeth makes me want to read The Scottish Play again. I loved how it played with the themes of fate and family--it definitely does the play justice and enhances it. While it did feel rushed by the very end, Scott's brilliant follow-up essays and discussion topics more than make up for it. Highly recommended. #booktober #supernaturalbeings

A graphic novel about Macbeth, told from the point of view of the witches? You can bet I was on board for this. The art is gorgeous and brutal; it's well worth the read.
