A hitmaking songwriter and a bitter musician share a startling and inexplicable connection that they'll do anything to shake, in the next sparkling, magical book from the New York Times bestselling author of The Seven Year Slip and A Novel Love Story.Named a Most Anticipated book of Summer 2025 by Marie Claire ? Brit + Co ? Yahoo! Life ? and more! Joni Lark has a secret. She's one of the most coveted songwriters in LA, and yet she can't write. There's an emptiness inside her, and nothing seems to fill it. When she returns to her hometown of Vienna Shores, North Carolina, she hopes that the sand, the surf, and the concerts at The Revelry, her family's music venue, will spark inspiration. But when Joni gets there, nothing is how she left it. Her best friend is hiding something, her mother's memories are fading fast, and The Revelry is closing. How can Joni write when her world is leaving her behind? Until she hears it. A melody in her head, lyric-less and half-formed, and an alluring and addictive voice to go with it--belonging, apparently, to a wry musician with an emptiness of his own. Surely, he's a figment of Joni's overworked imagination. Then a very real man shows up in Vienna Shores. He's arrogant and guarded--nothing like the sweet, funny voice in Joni's head--and he has a plan for breaking their inconvenient telepathic connection: finish the song haunting them both and hope they don't risk their hearts--or their secrets--in the process. Because that melody, the one drawing them together . . . what if it's there for a reason?

This hit so many good notes for me, haha, it's cosy and full of some great characters that feel real and homey.

I loved the family connection, it feels like what I know within my own family and even the sibling ribbing is on point and real.

The whole book in itself was rooted in reality with its quiet moments, serious conversations, worry, confusion, trepidation, growth, love, and open understanding.

8:45 on a Friday night. I‘m in my pj‘s and in bed ready to read for 11 minutes or so, until I fall asleep with the book on my face. I‘ve already had an after-dinner nap. This is what teaching junior high looks like. (Good book! I‘m loving it!)

I love this author. I will read anything she puts out in the world. Even a book about music, which isn't normally my jam.

I definitely enjoyed reading this book, and to do so I had to forgive the very predictable plot. Still fun.

I‘ve been waiting for AP to give us something as good as Dead Romantics, and she finally did it. I loved everything in this book. It‘s beautiful and sad and just lovely. Book #69 in 2025 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A very sweet contemporary romance (no steam) about music and family. Some of the music ideas were a bit light in accurate detail, but the family moments were very sweet. It was just missing a little something to make it excellent for me, but it was fun read. Note it does talk about Alzheimer‘s with a parent, it is not as detailed as other dramas I‘ve read, but beware of that is a tough topic for you. 3.5⭐️
