"A BONFIRE, A BEACON, A BALM, A RALLYING CRY... A beautifully written, mesmerizing horror epic... Magnificent." - Rachel Harrison, USA Today bestselling author of So Thirsty In this fiercely captivating novel, horror meets historical fiction when a curse bridges generations, binding the fates of three women. Anne Bolton, a healer facing persecution for witchcraft, bargains with a dark entity for protection--but the fire she unleashes will reverberate for centuries. Mary Shephard, a picture perfect wife in a suffocating community, falls for Sharon and begins a forbidden affair that could destroy them both. And Camilla Burson, the rebellious daughter of a preacher, defies conformist expectations to uncover an ancient power as her father's flock spirals into crisis. Three women. Three centuries. One legacy of fury, love, and a power that refuses to die. "A hauntingly beautiful exploration of revenge, feminine rage, and the secrets that bind women across time... Frightening, subversive, and provocative." - Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author The Lost Apothecary

This book was infuriating. The treatment of women at the hands of the church made my blood boil. And the betrayal by the men who were supposed to love them. This book follows three different women at three different time periods. They all have a connection that may not be apparent at first. This is a story of women finding their power, and how the men try to constantly destroy them. It was tense at times and I enjoyed reading it.

Reggie I loved a book of her short stories and despised a novel of hers I read. I‘ll give this a try. 1d

With multiple perspectives across 3 timelines, plus an intriguing premise, I must admit to harboring high hopes for this one as I waited to see how these women would connect with one another— along with the mysterious tree & hints of an old legend. But the pacing dragged for me, the supernatural elements weren‘t adequately explained & the gory plague was so repulsive! The epic scope made the book feel shallowly developed & historically inaccurate.

I'm always late to pick my books, and this month is no different. Luckily, the slight delay for Dark Sisters will have my box arrive once I'm back from vacation. Snagging the Braithewaite this month because my procrastination caused me to miss out in November.

Three time frames. Three women. All interconnected by blood. The horrors of what happened. This book is not for the faint of heart in any way. But it's so good. I devoured it. From 1750, 1953, and 2007. The women in each time are expected to be so obedient and godly. Wifely. Motherly. To be just what their husbands want them to be.

December #botm selections are live. Their picks the past few years have been rather hit & miss, but it does seem like in recent months they have slightly improved their choices. Maybe feeling the pressure from Aardvark? Anywhoo, I was delighted to see a Demeester as one of the choices. I have read several of her stories & loved them.

Kitta I picked this one too! 1mo

Dark Sisters follows the legacy of a healer accused of witchcraft whose daughter, betrayed, unleashes a curse that reverberates into the present where the daughter of a wealthy cult leader must unpack the secrets of her history to redeem her community. In tackling three timelines, DeMeester sometimes stumbles in her pacing, but this is still a darkly satisfying story of feminine rage and revenge. #NetGalley 12/9 release.
