Powerful (The Powerless Trilogy Book #1)
Powerful (The Powerless Trilogy Book #1) | Lauren Roberts
16 posts | 18 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting.
He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites.
The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity. Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done. When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.

This didn‘t keep me hooked as much as Powerless. The whole ‘unlikely allies to lovers‘ trope had already been done with Kai & Pae, so felt a bit repeated here with Mak & Dena. But it was well written (despite grammatical errors) because even though I knew Dena‘s fate, I still had that feeling that it might end differently. A shame that some of the main story themes feel lifted straight from other books as it does take some joy out of reading.

This is a really nice short addition to the series.
Even though nothing really knew is happening it is definitely not unnecessary to read it.
I started crying in the beginning of the book and shedded even more tears in the end.
Was I delusional for hoping that everything turns out differently even though we know how the story ends 🥲

Sad and heartbreaking additional novella of nothing new really happening.

I must be a masochist for reading this book, knowing how it would end. I love that we got Adena‘s story but it is heartbreaking to know her after reading Powerless and Reckless. I can‘t wait for the 3rd book. I need more of the poetic writing and Pae and Kai‘s story.

Powerless spoiler…………..😭😭😭I‘m sobbing. Adena is such a beautiful human. I will think about her every time the sun hits my face or I glance at the stars. Reading this after Powerless just hits different, like falling in love with someone you know you‘ll loose.

Reading Adena‘s POV truly makes me sad all over again. I am glad I was able to know her story.

I must have been so heartbroken to have to wait until April of 2025 for the next book, that I failed to take a picture of this one! 😫 Lauren Roberts writing is just amazing to me. She‘s definitely gotten me into the romantasy genre!

And finished this the other day. Was really good but I wish it were longer. It was bittersweet since I already kind of knew how it was gonna end. I wonder if we‘ll see Mak again.

BookishGirl06 I wish Adena didn‘t have to die either. She didn‘t do anything wrong besides be Paedyns friend 12mo

5⭐️ Can‘t believe I almost didn‘t pick this up. Not always one for novellas if I‘m not 100% invested. So glad I did. Knowing this goes side to side with Powerless -just Adena‘s perspective -hit so hard. I adore her. She is such a light in such a dark world. Mak grew on her, as this is literally the sunshine and grumpy trope tripping into each other. I cried so much at the ending. Such a powerful 220 page story. Now I cry looking at the cover🪡

I thought this was a great novella release right before the next book comes out in July. This tells the story of what Adena is experiencing while Pae is in the trials. I loved getting this side of the story! What a treat and now I‘m ready for book 2! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
