120 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature
120 Banned Books: Censorship Histories of World Literature | Nicholas J Karolides, Margaret Bald, Dawn B Sova
6 posts | 1 read | 4 to read
Throughout history, nations, peoples, and governments have censored writers and their works on political, religious, sexual, and social grounds. Although the literary merit of the majority of these books has been proven time and time again, censorship efforts are still in place today. From Animal Farm to The Grapes of Wrath, The Koran to The Talmud, Ulysses to the Harry Potter series, The Canterbury Tales to The Bell Jar, this revised edition examines the many struggles these books faced in order to be read. Tracing the censorship histories of 120 works from across the world, 120 Banned Books, Second Edition provides a summary of each work, its censorship history, and suggestions for further reading. Many new titles have been added to reflect some of the controversies in recent years, and updates have been made to existing entries on such classic books as Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird.

It seems 20 books have been literally lost in translation (just 100 left instead of 120) 😄

I don't have a lot of bookish swag, but I do love my banned books bracelet. I used to wear it all the time, but I need to string it with new elastic. So now it only makes an appearance once a year or so. I wore it to church tonight.

Question: how do you organize your personal bookshelves?

My boyfriend recently moved in with me and we‘ve added 2 more bookshelves to accommodate our combined book collection (and, frankly, my out of control library - a total #blameitonlitsy scenario). However, I have no idea how to organize them in a way that makes sense! Help!

LazyDays Maybe all paper back on one and hard covers o another and all done by size. 😵📚📚 hope that helps! 6y
TheBookAddict I organize them alphabetically by the authors‘ last names with a separate section for non fiction, books in other languages, mythology, and graphic novels/comics. I would love to separate them by genre and then last names, but I think most books can fall under more than once category so I‘d be undecided and I‘d just end up with anxiety. My husband says we should organize them alphabetically according to the title. 6y
CouronneDhiver I arranged my books into a rainbow by spine colour 6y

Lreads My husband and I have always kept our books shelved seperately. His have no rhyme or reason. Mine are sorted into genres then alphabetical by author. This way we‘re both happy. 6y
Karkar I try to keep books by the same author together but other than that, no rhyme or reason. 6y
rather_be_reading alphabetical by authors last name 6y
