Bk1 of my #24B4Monday #readathon is done, and another book off my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge I‘ve read most of McCaffreys books except this trilogy, it was wonderful to read about the beginnings of FT&T that‘s so much a part of The Tower & The Hive series that starts with The Rowan. Disregard that bloody awful cover, the stories inside, it‘s more of a short story collection than a novel, are so worth it. 5⭐️

For this #24B4Monday #readathon I thought I‘d follow EST so I‘m on the same timeline as most Littens. Then I forget so I‘m still almost 8hrs behind!🙄 I‘m kicking off with not only the oldest paperback on my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom but also hands down the ugliest. What was it with SF novels in the early 70s?At least it‘s another book off my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge as well👍 How‘s everyone doing today? Aus is about to enter lockdown mode I think.

Soubhiville It‘s so vintage! I remember covers similar to this on my parents shelves. 5y
Lizpixie @Soubhiville I bought it years ago from a 2ndhand book stall at Parklea Markets. They had a corner near centre stage full of 8ft tall stacks which had the best books in them. If you were looking for the third book from that series you want to finish, they were the people to see. I miss them so much!😢 5y
TheAromaofBooks That cover is amazing! I read McCaffrey's Pern books a year or two ago and loved them, but haven't checked out any of her other stuff. Is this one any good? 5y

ravenlee Those covers look like they belong to all those miniseries from the same era. So melodramatic. 5y
Andrew65 70s books around have some interesting‘ covers. Many on my library shelves. Good luck with the Readathon. 5y
Clwojick This cover though! 😂😂😂 5y

1/5⭐ I think I figured out what doesn't work for me from McCaffrey: her characters are flat as pancakes. They don't grow and the plot (if there is any) drives their actions/words rather than the other way around. It is baffling that this book's blurb describes 5 important-sounding women in detail, promising their perspectives on how they shape the world of the Talents, but the whole story is told from the POV of 2 men. *throws hands up*

#LitsyClassics #MayLovesClassics #day9 #WorseCover This is still, hands down, the worst cover in my library. Published in 1986, this edition has “Decade Of Bad Taste” written all over it. I have no idea why the guy looks like Vincent Price or why the girl with horns is holding her head like it‘s about to explode. I definitely don‘t know why the blonde in front with the bad perm looks like a sex doll.🤔

Lynnsoprano 🤣 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Girl in the front looks like: “I was just watching Flashdance, drinking a Tab, and then I woke up on this weird planet” 7y
knittedgnome Lol!!! It's amazing! 7y
llwheeler 😂 i just bought this from a used booksale, and i was definitely planning a post about the cover too haha 7y

#Riotgrams #day17 #WeirdestBookCover If you go to any 2ndhand bookseller, the paperbacks that were published in the 60s/70s period are weird.I don't know if it was the drugs in the air or what, but some of the covers are just plain strange.Take this one.Based on this cover, would you think this book is about people with psychic abilities that use them to move people & cargo around space?A dodgy Vincent Price & pony doesn't scream SciFi to me.🚀

Libby1 😂 7y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled 😂 too true!! 7y
Leniverse Well, the woman in red is clearly either suffering a dizzy spell or concentrating her psychic powers. Since she doesn't have a look of intense concentration on her face, and is being propped up by Vincent Price, I'm guessing she's in a swoon. 7y
Lizpixie @Leniverse ??? And the blonde at the front is thinking "Oh no you didn't!" 7y
DivaDiane Yes, definitely swooning. But I think the pony is meant to be a Pegasus. Call me crazy. 7y

Mehso-so

This was my first Anne McCaffrey book ages and ages sgo -- I was always annoyed because the blurb highlighting the female Talents felt so inaccurate. The men were still more heavily featured frankly and always in solid control of their abilities. But I still have a fondness for early Pegasus books...

#AprilBookShowers #day15 #BadCoverGoodBook Some of the science fiction covers from the 60s up to the early 90s were sooo bad, they were an art form all their own! Actually, most book covers from any genre in this period were awful. This is a really good short story collection from Anne McCaffrey, set in the same world as her Tower & Hive series, where space tech is run by "talents", people with psy abilities. I highly recommend all her books.

MayJasper That cover 😂 8y
Megabooks Her books were so good, but totally agree about the covers! 8y
elkeOriginal I think this cover is fantastic! 8y

Lizpixie @Mayjasper @Booksandcooks @elkeo the guy is very Vincent Price-ish don't you think! (edited) 8y
JazzFeathers I agree, this is one of the worst l've seen today 8y
mizzelle Vincent Price or Dr Strange! This is the exact cover I have as well... 7y
