This book was very easy to read. Every chapter added a new piece of evidence to the story, letting you try and put those pieces together, before tying them all to each other in the end. Tony Hillerman was a talented author, and I will keep thrifting these books for a good quick read.

My main complaint for the first couple of books in this series was feeling disconnected from the main characters. That has improved SO much over the next books in the series, including this one, where what is happening in the lives of both Leaphorn and Chee is a big part of the story. I am really enjoying these books a lot. I also have to say that even though they are mysteries written in the 80s, they are delightfully free of the bizarre sex ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) scenes that so many crime writers from that era seemed to find necessary. Overall, these are really clean mysteries and it's a big part of the reason that I'm enjoying them so much.

Mehso-so

I had to read this book for class, Anthropology of Detectives and Murders. I love the Navajo culture and I loved learning more about them in this book through the mystery. However, I could not get into the writing and I could not find myself to care about the characters. I couldn‘t remember half of them or what was going on. However the mystery kept me reading till the very end and I could not predict the end.
