I had a couple false starts with Oklahoma but finally landed on this solid cold case crime story for my #52mysteries challenge. It got a little cheesy at times, but there‘s a strong sense of place and an interesting mystery.

This was relentlessly depressing, and I didn‘t find the ending to be particularly satisfying. On the other hand, it‘s a well paced story with relatable characters and some insightful descriptions. Solid pick but I won‘t carry on past this first book in the series.
I‘m getting close to finishing my personal #52mysteries reading challenge.
This book has a strong sense of place and sometimes insightful writing, but overall it needed more editing. I also didn‘t find the story very satisfying for many reasons. Apparently the following books in the series feature a different main character who‘s more compelling than the guy in this book, but even so I don‘t think I‘ll read any further.
In any case #Montana is done and there are only a few states left! #52mysteries
Interesting story and characters. Perhaps a little long but mostly fast paced. Fulfills Washington DC for my #52mysteries reading project. First in a series, but it‘s a little cynical and depressing for me to continue. I can read about murder and mayhem in other cities, but for my own city I just need to turn on the local news.
Anyway, this was one of the books I planned to finish for #dashingdecember but better late than never!
I‘m closing in on #52mysteries with this entry for Kentucky. Blue states are completed, green states are to be read with the books identified, and the gold state is a book from my shelf. The other two are DC and Puerto Rico, which are on different maps!
This was an interesting book. A little convoluted, definitely dated, but with good bones of a story. Not much sense of place. The author is now known (if at all) for being Sue Grafton‘s father.
I sometimes get confused keeping track of readathon goals, but I‘m trying again with #RushAthon this month. These are the books I want to read, in no particular order (except for one that‘s a sequel).
-Ten Women
-The Hobbit
-Romantic Comedy
-The Sparrow ➡️ Children of God
-The Memory of Animals
-The Rat Began to Gnaw the Rope
…and maybe more?

Another one done for #52mysteries
Blue = read
Green = need to read; book identified
Gold = book in my library
1. I set a goal on Goodreads only because I couldn‘t track my reading on the phone app otherwise. My actual goal is just to read as much as possible. So far I‘m at 33 books for the year.
2. Keep working on: #ReadingTheAmericas2023 #authoramonth #52mysteries etc. etc. etc.

Libby said it would be a few more weeks before Birnam Wood became available, but that was a lie. Just in time for the next #CampLitsy selection!
Meanwhile back at the #ReadingTheAmericas ranch, I‘m currently working on Haiti, Uruguay, and Cuba. With a side trip to Nebraska for my #52mysteries project. Topping it off with #authoramonth for June.
