I love the layout of the book, it made it very easy to read and kept me interested. Unfortunately, the content wasn't as impressive.

This is an introduction to ADHD and should be treated as such. There's a lot of useful information, it's a bit skewed towards ADHD is a super power which I don't like, and some of it is a bit patronising.

⬇️

PuddleJumper This is not a toolkit or however it describes itself. The 10 step is basically get routines while ignoring that executive dysfunction exists and people with ADHD often can't form habits.

Chrissyreadit Did you read ADHD 2.0? 2w
Jari-chan I don't like the ADHD superpower idea either 🙄 2w

PuddleJumper @Chrissyreadit No, I'll have a look. Thanks! 2w
PuddleJumper @Jari-chan It's very toxic positivity. You can discuss the good aspects of ADHD without making it seem like you're a special lizard that figured out how to fly. It also makes me feel bad because I'm struggling to brush my teeth and apparently I'm supposed to be some crazy creative person 2w
AmyG Not good spin. Not everything needs to be that. Just be honest. 2w
Jari-chan @PuddleJumper Exactly! It totally ignores the fact that this world is not built for neurodivergent people. It makes it easy for others to think "Oh wow, then you're all set", while we're actually struggling with basic tasks. And as soon as we admit that we can't keep up, we just have to "try a bit harder" ? Like, I've tried for basically all my life. 2w
Cuilin @PuddleJumper I also hate the super power bullshit when basic self care is a challenge. 2w
PuddleJumper @AmyG Exactly. There are good and bad aspects, you don't need to sugarcoat it especially for adults 2w
IriDas I hate the “it‘s a super power narrative.” It‘s just an excuse not to give people the help they need. And “habits” what?!?!?!? As someone with ADHD who has been trying that my whole life—what a friggin joke!!!! 2w
Chrissyreadit @PuddleJumper I struggle with so many things i was made to feel bad about and did not realize are part of having ADHD because i was never dx- I think our culture creates a world that is much harder for people with ADHD…. 2w
PuddleJumper @IriDas The amount of habit trackers I have or attempted because I kept being told to just do it for 30 days and it'll stick! Make those healthy habits blah blah. It was a relief finding out that my brain worked differently and I wasn't lazy 2w
PuddleJumper @Chrissyreadit It's hostile to people who aren't neurotypical. There's expectations that certain things are easy for everyone and if you can't do it then you're lazy and it's a moral failing. Absolutely messes you up. I've only just been diagnosed with ADHD and I'm having to undo so much negative speak, I've always considered myself lazy or blamed myself for struggling when other people didn't 2w

Penn and Kim definitely made me feel at ease, and it was so fun to learn and listen to how they both had good times and bad times dealing with Penn's #ADHD brain. It honestly felt like listening to a podcast and I wish more #nonfiction narrators were as charismatic. It'd be easier to focus, lol. Also, while I did appreciate Penn's POV, I also think it's a limited scope. I'd love to read more POVs from others, specifically POC and queer ADHDers.

Thanks for inviting me to join the #WDNCW club @dabbe ! Thought I‘d combine it with a haiku because, well, why not? 😆

We really don‘t care
the floor is covered with hair;
it can stay right there.

We do not care that the house hasn‘t been cleaned in a month because I dislocated my hip and have been gimping around ever since. We do not care that my hair is everywhere. I‘ll vacuum tomorrow! 😵‍💫

#haikuhive #haikuaday #poetry

AmyG Oh no….feel better! The house can wait. 1mo

The infantilization of a 39yo man gave me the BIGGEST ick. And the miscommunication? You are BOTH in your 30s, I need you to talk to each other like adults. I appreciate the continued emphasis on mental health, but oh my god. Y‘all need therapy, lots of it.

(This is maybe going to be a long post)

This is totally a #blameitonlitsy - it just kept on appearing and appearing and appearing in my feed. So who am I to fight Reading Destiny? And yes, it was a good thing to listen to it. RD knows what I need.

Because I so, so needed that book. It's short and easy to read, and it has to be. It's written for people in very dark places and those often don't have the strength and energy to read big books. ⬇

Jari-chan You can skip and browse as you like and need it.

The way of deconstructing what makes you unhappy about your cho- I mean, care works, is basically the same as the one I did when I was fighting my ED. But it never occurred to me that I needed to this with my relationship with care work as well.

Even though my therapist told me to go easy on it, to think that it‘s okay that not everything‘s done, it only ever worked a little bit. ⬇
2mo
Jari-chan It still stressed me out. A lot. That‘s why I read this book. I never realized how much shame I connected to it. That I have to learn to see my dirty floor as neutral. That it doesn‘t make me a bad person or a failure.

Wow, so much learning. But it‘s already starting to do it‘s wonders. I‘m more relaxed, more accepting. And it feels wonderful.

AmyG A good book to read. I was the same. Then I began what I called “triage”. What was the most important thing to do first and so on down the line. I also learned that I am my best friend so I talked to myself with kindness and compassion-and I learned to trust myself. It all gets done eventuallly. Your “care works” are not you. 2mo

AmyG Thank you….I am so better. 2mo
MaleficentBookDragon I‘m glad this book is helping you. My therapist recommended this book to me after I read Divergent Mind (another she recommended). They both have really helped me with understanding myself and to start letting go of shame. It‘s a work in progress. 2mo

I‘ve finished my May #DoubleSpin book.
I loved the Cerulean Sea duology. So when my nephew asked me if I‘d read book 1 in Klune‘s YA series, I happily agreed.
It‘s not on the same level as Cerulean but it still had great moments that made me feel the story. I laughed and I felt the characters‘ pain and sadness.
My nephew LOVED it btw. 🏳️‍🌈

This book strives to reset our mindsets. Society teaches us that to be a “good” person/parent/spouse we should have a neat, clean house. The author suggests that a neat, clean house is not an issue of goodness or badness; it‘s a functional issue. We aren‘t meant to be the servant to house. It is supposed to serve us. With that change in mindset, the goal is no longer perfection but function. On days when parenting, chronic pain, work, etc keeps ⬇️

Texreader us from completing a chore list or just picking or cleaning up, then do just what you need to do to make your house function for you. If you are up to doing more, great! But let go of the moral self-talk that you are not a good person if the stove isn‘t wiped down, or you skip a load of laundry. The author provides numerous suggestions on how to tackle tasks. This is a good book that anyone who keeps home should read for their own wellbeing. 4mo
