It is 1954 and 18 year-old Emmett Watson's warden is driving him home to Nebraska after serving 15 months for involuntary manslaughter. His mother has been dead and his father recently died and the family farm is in foreclosure. Emmett decides to head to California with his 8 year-old brother Billy. He soon discovers that two friends from the work farm have hidden in the trunk of the warden's car.

EadieB Together, they hatch a different plan for Emmett and his brother. This plan will take them in the opposite direction to New York City. This slow-paced story of their adventure is told in multiple POV's and is very entertaining. By the end, you are enjoying yourself so much that you wish you could follow them on other trip. There are multiple themes; hope, redemption, family, friendship, loyalty and morality. (edited) 2y
EadieB I can't wait for the next book by Towles as he is a master storyteller. If you liked his other books, then I'm sure you will like this one too! 2y
Cortg I‘m looking forward to this read. I‘m currently #154 on the hold list at the library ☺️ 2y

A perfect Saturday morning at the cabin. I‘m almost finished with this book, and it‘s possible I may love it even more than A Gentleman in Moscow. Towles is such a fantastic character writer, and this book has a whole cast of them. I have no doubt that this book will be turned into a movie or tv mini-series. It‘s a story too good not to be told on the screen. #thelincolnhighway #amortowles #contemporaryliterature

AmyG I am only 25 pages in and I just know, just feel….it‘s going to be wonderful. 3y

Gentleman in Moscow | Amor Towles

Gentleman in Moscow is one my favorite books, from the last few years. I posted a few things on IG regarding the book, today the Metropol Hotel (setting of story) liked my posts but more importantly they are offering
The Gentleman in Moscow immersion tour.
I now have a new dream trip.

I enjoyed this book very much but found it slow in the beginning. History of Russia was interesting and I loved the count. He was held hostage in the Metropole Hotel and developed a friendly relationship with the staff and especially 8 year old Nina. I found Amor Towles writing to be as excellent as his other book, Rules of Civility. Looking forward to the next book by Towles.

Crazeedi Me too. Enjoyed both 5y
Andrew65 I loved me this one, one of my favourite books this year, helped by reading as part of the #BOTMBuddyRead Much preferred this to Rules of Civility. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I liked them both equally! 5y
