“Harmony exists only in music…And then rarely. A single family can no more sort out its legacy than society can…”

This is a family drama set over the Christmas holiday that wrestles with the question of what and how much one generation owes another.

Soft pick - this one won‘t be living on my shelves, despite the fabulous cover.

Granta 25. Not on Litsy, have suggested it but I don‘t know how long that takes to be reviewed.

An interesting set of stories, from the gripping account of the Gibraltar killings to a murder tale in South Africa which annoyingly continues in the next issue !

Ernaux mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer. This is the last years of her mother‘s at a home. After visiting her mother, Ernaux would write down a few sentences in loose papers. Those papers have turned into this slim book of 100p. And it‘s so powerful and makes you think about old age.

vlwelser Ernaux is on my list of authors to explore more. I love her writing. And the short books help. 13mo
AnneCecilie @vlwelser I tend to not like short books, I feel that they not fleshed out enough. But Ernaux writing is so concise, that for me they just work. 13mo

A perfect Saturday morning at the cabin. I‘m almost finished with this book, and it‘s possible I may love it even more than A Gentleman in Moscow. Towles is such a fantastic character writer, and this book has a whole cast of them. I have no doubt that this book will be turned into a movie or tv mini-series. It‘s a story too good not to be told on the screen. #thelincolnhighway #amortowles #contemporaryliterature

AmyG I am only 25 pages in and I just know, just feel….it‘s going to be wonderful. 3y

Another beaut of a cover.
I've read one other by him.
This tells of an extended family and is narrated by the 13 year old grandson.

Tamra Oh this family drama sounds good! I like these kinds of intimate portraits of characters. 3y

I've officially run out of Dorthe Nors books that have been translated into English. Time to learn to read Danish? 😉
