As in my previous post, I‘m participating in #ArmchairAudies in Fantasy category. All these finalist titles are very promising. And almost all of them are the first of a series, an independent prequel or a standalone. Only one exception is Snake Eyes but I‘m willing to read book 1-10 to get there. (I‘m on book 3 right now.)

P.S. Oh, I‘ll try not to be biased even with my fav author Cat Valente on the list.
P.S.S. Anyone wants to join? 🙋🏽‍♀️

Zelma I don‘t kn9w how the audio is but one 9f y favorite reads last year was The Refrigerator Monologues! 😍 7y
pppooraikul @Zelma I‘m glad to hear that! It‘s the book I have the highest hope for. 😉 7y

Around this time of the year, the #ArmchairAudies is usually held by @LitHousewife to listen to Audie Award finalists and predict the official result. Sadly, this year she isn‘t able to run it. (I hope you‘re well, Jennifer. *virtual hugs sent*) But Miss Dee and Miss Susie (no Litsy account) are helping out this time. 👏🏽

I‘m participating in Fantasy category. If anyone is interested, please don‘t hesitate to reach out! 😉

This book was interesting and entertaining for long afternoons spent doing laundry. It‘s full of the kinds of gossip and snark that you would expect. Bette moved a former husband‘s body to make room for her dog. Joan was in bed with the flu and a bottle of vodka. This was my first listen for the #armchairaudies. It most likely won‘t be my pick- I tend to go for the serious ones. However this was highly entertaining and I recommend it.

This was my pick for best nonfiction #audiobook of the year when I judged the 2017 #armchairaudies. I paid full price for, and it was so worth every penny, but you can get it for $2.95! #audible #dailydeal

Ashley_Nicoletto Good to know! Definitely getting! Thanks for sharing 7y
saguarosally How do you find Audible deals? This looks interesting. 7y
Sue Thanks for the hot tip! I love books about language, and his Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue' was awesome! 7y

Slump | Dave Jarzyna

This smiley audiobook is mocking me. For the first time since my audiobook conversion, I'm in an audiobook slump. Nothing is working for me. New narrator, trusted narrator, or even my favorite genres are coming up dry. I've suffered through many print reading slumps, so I know this will pass. That being said, audiobooks are my traveling companions and this feels unnatural.

I plan on not forcing the issue. I'll listen to music, etc. Still, BOO!

Megabooks I'm having the same problem ☹️ 7y
prowlix Have you tried listening to favorites you've read in print form? I've done that with a couple classics and really enjoyed it. I hope your slump ends soon 7y
CherylDeFranceschi Sorry! I'm having that problem across all different platforms. Just can't settle in. 7y

Yeah_I_Read Whenever I get in a slump I switch up the genre that I've been reading most prominently. There are some amazing books out rn across all genres. Good luck 😊 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders I took almost a year off. Nothing was working for me. I'm just back at it now but I have low tolerance for crappy narration so I stop them quickly if I'm not into it. It is hard tho to just listen to music! 😊 7y
Marchpane Maybe fill the gap with some good podcasts until the slump passes? Good luck 🤞🏻 7y
LitHousewife @Booksandcooks I'm thinking #ArmchairAudies might be playing a role. 7y
LitHousewife @prowlix It's been a while since I've done that. I'll have to give that a try. 🙂 7y
LitHousewife @Yeah_I_Read That is definitely worth a try. Something new might engage me in just the right way. 7y
LitHousewife @Penny_LiteraryHoarders I'm hoping this won't last that long. Actually, I'm going to see U2 in 3 weeks. Maybe that's part of it. I'm too excited. 😂 7y
LitHousewife @Marchpane I do keep forgetting about podcasts!!! 7y
whatsjennareading When this happens to me, I go back and listen to an old favorite. Good luck!! 7y
Megabooks @LitHousewife Agreed. I'm having trouble writing my last few reviews. Writer's block. 7y
LitHousewife @Booksandcooks If it makes you feel any better, the only reviews I've written have been on Litsy. I just can't. 7y
Megabooks @LitHousewife glad I'm not alone. 😕 7y
BethFishReads Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 7y
Ruri_kaichou I second @Marchpane 's suggestion. Podcasts are great, bookish or not. Sometimes I need to completely step away from whatever slump I'm in for a bit and then I come back with fresh eyes/ears. Hope it will pass soon for you! 7y
Penny_LiteraryHoarders @LitHousewife lucky you!!!!!!!! I won't tell my husband!!! He belongs to the Church of U2 and would love so much to go!! 7y

Now that I've finished my #ArmchairAudies listens, I can catch up on the audiobooks I've had my eyes on since February. First up, a book with the name of the city where I work in the title. It's not a direct reference, but fun nevertheless.

BethFishReads This is on my list. I await your opinion 8y
LitHousewife @BethFishReads I will be reporting back frequently. 🙂 8y
CoffeeBooksRepeat I really liked this one! 8y

Y'all this book is like awesome. I'm all you should check it out and listen to it. He's like talking about how language changes over time. No really.

All of the above are changes he noted in the way we talk. That's just the last chapter. And based off (another change) my recommendation, you should head to #audible and buy it.

Last of the #ArmchairAudies in #nonfiction. I hope to have all my blog posts up by the 1st. #nonfictionchallenge17

LitHousewife I'm adding this to my list! 8y
Louise John McWhorter is such a wonderful teacher! I have a couple of his Great Courses from Audible. 8y

Megabooks @LitHousewife It's so good! This is good for happy reasons, Evicted for sad ones. It's going to be a tough call. (edited) 8y
Megabooks @Louise I'm considering getting some of those! 8y
Louise You can't go wrong! Also check out Arnold Weinstein's Great Courses on literature. They are great! 8y
CatchMyBookBreath I love John McWhorter and bought everything he's recorded that's on audible. Have you read Word by Word yet? BTW, i just saw the nonfiction challenge tag - I'm in! 7y
Megabooks @CatchMyBookBreath No I haven't, but I'd love to! Great to have you in the challenge! 7y

Spent my shower listening to the last book in my #nonfiction #ArmchairAudies category. I'm really enjoying this one. I'm going to have to listen to a chapter of Evicted to compare the two. Both are very different and have EXCELLENT narration! 🤔🤔😃 #springcleaningreadathon

Sace Does the author narrate this one? Because I've listened to one of John McWhorter's Great Courses and he's so entertaining. I'm not embarrassed to admit that I am a McWhorter groupie. Absolutely love him. 8y
Megabooks @Sace Yes he does, and it's fantastic! The only chapter I haven't liked was the one on vowels. All the accents gave me a headache! But otherwise so far it's amazing! Definitely check it out!!!!! 8y
Sace I've got the print copy. Now I'm kind of sad I didn't go audible. 8y
Megabooks @Sace I'm sure it will still be good but 😢😢 8y

5⭐️ This book is the bomb.com.org.edu. It's good as ffffffff. Audio is so the way to go with this one. She adds so much fun stuff to the text. The only reason not to listen to this book is if you don't want your thoughts in Phoebe's awesome voice for the rest of the day or don't find millennial speak funny. We finally have a winner in the #ArmchairAudies #humor! Check back for a longer blog post soon.

LitHousewife Excellent!!!! 8y
Megabooks @LitHousewife Yes! I should have tagged you! Probably the best essay collection I've listened to. Even edging out Bad Feminist. 8y
CherylDeFranceschi But- did you like it? 😜Great review! 8y

MatchlessMarie Definitely gonn check it out. This year has been the year of the audiobook for me for some reason after years of avoiding them. I have missed out on so much! 🎧 8y
MoniqueReads305 I just purchased this based on your review. I was looking for a audiobook to buy with my unused credit. 8y
Megabooks @MatchlessMarie Same here! I just started listening last September. 8y
Megabooks @MoniqueReads305 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 8y
