J Robert Lennon‘s debut novel is good but he has grown a lot ever since.
This one is about a plane crashing in Montana. We follow a few people who are affected by the crash in one way or another. A couple who live nearby, a man waiting for his girlfriend, a survivor. They grow on you and they‘re great characters. It‘s just that I am spoiled by Lennon‘s later works (I just purchased some more books from his backlist 🤷🏻‍♀️🤭) #192025 #1997

Ruthiella You will soon be a R.J. Lennon completist! 11mo
BarbaraBB @Ruthiella I guess. I can‘t stop! 11mo

#WeeklyForecast 24/23

It‘s time for yet another J Robert Lennon, my new favorite author 😀. But first I have started another favorite, Murakami, and am immediately drawn in by his writing and characters. Great gift @KarenUK 🩷

Cinfhen Nice 😊 11mo
sarahbarnes Two of my favorite writers! 😍 I am very interested to hear what you think of the Lennon. I‘m reading the short stories that @vivastory recommended now and loving them. 11mo
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes That‘ll be by next Lennon I think. Looking forward to your review 11mo

Suet624 Hmmm… I know nothing about Lennon. I‘ll have to remedy that. Is there one you would recommend? 11mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I really can‘t say which I liked best, they are all so good! This one is his most recent one and was a ToB book at the time. It awakened my love for his books: 11mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 completely different but just as good are 11mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Also @sarahbarnes is reading a short story collection by him, highly recommended by @vivastory 11mo
vivastory Was unfamiliar with The Light of Falling Stars. It sounds great! 11mo
BarbaraBB @vivastory It‘s his debut. I am trying to collect of all his backlist. Some are really cheap, others unavailable! 11mo
Suet624 Thank you for the recommendations! 11mo

Sitting in my new recliner that my parents bought me during Black Friday sales 🎉 and just finished reading one of my Intro to the Old Testament textbooks! This is a great, accessible historical-critical introduction to the OT organized in 13 chapters that have recommended readings from the Bible listed throughout. Not a good option for reading out of order, but excellent for getting a really strong grasp of historical context for the OT! 👍

It's a beautiful day for reading, drinking tea, eating madeleines, and looking out the window. 💕

Caterina @BookwormAHN Thanks! 😊 I got it in Hebron, it's traditional Palestinian ceramics still made by hand. 😍 5y
Caterina @Andrew65 I hope you have a warm blanket and warm socks for your cozy reading! 😊 It's in the 50s F here today, so a little on the chilly side, but not a cloud in the sky! ☀️ 5y
Andrew65 @Caterina 41 degrees here, yes good blanket vital for today! 5y

Yeah so I spent the evening making a scary children's picture book from hell that's based on Isaiah 5:1-7, which is a scary prophecy about how God's gonna destroy the vineyard that is Israel for being bad. Most fun I've had doing a school project in a while! 😂 Watched Schitt's Creek and then Queer Eye while doing it, so not much reading done today. Settling down with some (required) reading now before bed!

Scochrane26 My friend did a graphic novel about revelation, I think, for her thesis in seminary. 5y

#TIL that monotheism entered Israelite religion during the Babylonian exile (6th c. BCE), and that Deutero-Isaiah (Isaiah 40-55) contains the earliest monotheistic argument in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. In pre-exilic texts there are just arguments not to worship other gods, not arguments that there are no other gods. #NFNov @rsteve388 @Clwojick

Evening #NFNov reading. Idk if it's cheating to count required reading? It'll certainly help my motivation if I can include them. Things are very busy and I need motivation. 😂

#TIL that exiled communities change in similar ways, like family/clan traditions becoming more important while other traditions disappear or are transformed. Sabbath observance grew in importance for the exiled Judeans, and they resisted assimilation via intermarriage.
