As far as #BOTM picks, this one was pretty mediocre. Not bad, also not a favorite. It instantly sprang to mind though when I saw today‘s #maymoviemagic prompt, #behindthewheel.

Mary and Hannah are two sisters set adrift, driving across the country to try to find a place to put down roots after their mother does in a car crash.

“I sat there behind the wheel of my car, not sure what I should do, wishing I was someplace else, anyplace else, trying on shoes, filling out a credit application in a discount store, standing in front of a pay toilet stall with diarrhea and no dime. Anyplace, man. It didn‘t have to be Monte Carlo. Mostly I sat there wishing I was older.”

I had The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie in my hand at the bookstore last weekend, but I put it back, thinking that there was another Muriel Spark novel I wanted to read first. Had I checked my TBR, I would have realized it was this one. Intriguing plot involving a woman trying to escape both her life and general persona, leading to a drama while sitting between two men on an airplane (so, I guess title is a metaphor? 🤔)
