A really in depth, personal story of the experience of officers on January 6, 2021. Warning: contains very graphic language. But then, if you‘ve ever heard Mike Fanone in an interview, you shouldn‘t be surprised. I highly recommend this book. #1/6/21 #BackTheBlue #BlackLivesMatter
On that day with that White Director, I made the choice to never again be quiet, to never again suck it up. I challenged him. And I will do it again. If that makes me uppity, so be it. At least people know I‘m no longer a vessel that they can use to act out their racist feelings. They will know that I think I‘m worth fighting for. They will know that I have a fire burning inside me. They will know that I‘m alive. #Racism #BlackLivesMatter
The storyline felt very real. It depicted the racism and injustice black people face every day in a very nuanced way. It did a fantastic job highlighting the internal struggle of deciding whether or not to speak out. Taking a stand, or in this case, kneeling, has both positive and negative consequences, and this book dove right into the complexity of it all.

I am 2 chapters in, and surprised by the fairly scathing social commentary so far! Hard to believe that this was first published 30 years ago. Blanche was ahead of her time. #BlackLivesMatter
I hope in my lifetime we can put behind us picture books with discussion notes that help adults navigate social ills like white supremacy. This book is a great resource for starting a dialog with children about white privilege. It won't make them feel guilty, instead it demonstrates how or when to speak up when bias hurts. Despite its huge intro and these notes, the book is very simple, which is what children need. #blacklivesmatter
Welcome to the 21st century. As we move into an inclusive future lead by authors and artists we will raise a generation of brilliant loving and compassionate children. #readforperspective #everybodybooks #blacklivesmatter
Short primer to teach children about the #BlackLivesMatter movement and its context within the civil rights movement and other protest campaigns. Clear, effective introduction to a complex issue.
Dear Martin and its follow-up Dear Justyce: These are both amazing, eye-opening, and heartbreaking. Both depict the social injustices that people of color (in particular, males) are faced with every.single.day. No matter what. I finished these and immediately shared with my cousin. #socialjustice #socialinjustice #nicstone #yareads #blacklivesmatter #checkyourprivilege
