I‘m exactly halfway thru and things have just taken an interesting turn. This map makes a lot more sense now. Been a while since I‘ve read any sci-fi or dystopian so it‘s a nice change of pace for me. I‘ve also never read Cronin‘s The Passage. I‘m liking this one so far. I have some ideas about how things will go, but who knows if I‘m right or wrong 🤷🏻♀️

pickThe best thing about it was the romance between John Lowry, the half-Pawnee/half-white trail guide, and Naomi May, the young widow. Both were headed west to California, 1853. I love frontier stories like this one. I‘ve read stories of the trip west a thousand times and I‘ve pretty much loved them all. But I wish this book had a map! I love following progress along the trail and I love seeing the distance between characters when they‘re separated.
Clotild‘s family tree at the beginning of The Rebel Nun is so beautifully done!!
There is also a beautiful #bookmap of the Kingdom of the Franks. The book is set in the 500-600‘s.

pickI‘ve loved every book by this author I‘ve read. This dark school of magic is like Hogwarts on steroids. Monsters lurk everywhere (yup, even under your bed) and the students have to make allies for mutual protection or chances are they will die before they graduate. The teachers certainly won‘t intervene. The female protagonist is a sarcastic and talented loner whose growth consists of learning to trust/accept the help of others. 5 * read for me.
