This book. 💔 I love memoirs written in unique ways, and I love Sarah Moss‘ fiction; learning about her life experiences gave insights into some of the components of her novels. She so accurately captured for me the relationship between body, food and control, and how the line past which you‘ve taken it too far can be easy to cross. I loved all the discussions of works by female writers. The audio was fantastic.

Suet624 Oooh, sounds great. Stacked!! 1mo
sarahbarnes @Suet624 I can‘t stop thinking about it. So good. 1mo

sarahbarnes @youneverarrived it was definitely intense at times and I can see why you did that. Hopefully you like it if you get back to it. 💕 4w

Cat and Mouse: A Novel | Christianna Brand

I'm a bit stalled on this one. It did nicely evoke the Welsh weather, but I'm kinda meh about how... gothic it is? I think I see what's happening already, and the melodrama (and the main character getting humiliated) just isn't my jam. Brand isn't my favourite classic crime writer in any case, I've just never quite clicked with her stuff.

(I'm sorry about all the posts today! 😬 It's really catchup for most of the week, I suppose.)

Dahlia Lively is a Miss Marple-type character in a popular detective series. Rosalind King (60s) played the original Dahlia in the movies. Caro Hopper (40s) played Dahlia on the TV series. Posy Starling, child star, now grown up, plays Dahlia in the latest film. They should be rivals. But.
Instead, these three actresses who all have skeletons in their pasts, become unlikely friends, and team up to solve mysteries. 3rd book in this cozy series.

4⭐️ I like Celia Dale; I‘m already collecting her other titles published by Daunt Books. This one here is so refreshing. A gentle crime novel that is not too creepy, just a tad disturbing. How did she do that? I love it!

Cathythoughts I loved this one. 👍🏻❤️ 2mo

Pictures of myself are hard. This book was hard. I wish things could be different for her, for me, for my mother & sister & grandmother & aunts. Until then I‘m going to do what Moss does: send a good, bright wolf back in time to provide exactly what is needed ❤️ I‘m going to start by choosing to love the body that houses me

StaceGhost @AmyG you are so kind! And that‘s T Swift looking moody with a cat and a guitar— it was the most gothic merch I could find lol we were presenting at our graduate symposium on Swift scholarship and they took about 10k pictures of all of us 💀 ⚰️ 🪦 2mo

A cute little rom-com. It started out a little slow but as I spent more time with the characters I began to enjoy it more. At times I felt the characters were a bit cliche, especially the wacky grandma. Overall I enjoyed reading this.

Another great read from Celia. I couldn‘t put this down.. Grace and Janice meet in prison , when they are released they team up and make their living visiting old ladies. There‘s a bit of romance thrown in too .. and the result is a compelling story. I loved it ! The more I read her , the more I like her. I must get another one for my shelf.
Thankyou Trish for the gift of this book ❤️👌🏻
N. B. The book is not, 700 pages. It‘s about 300.

sarahbarnes You‘re really making me want to try this writer! ♥️ 3mo
Cathythoughts @sarahbarnes She‘s similar to Celia Fremlin and Ruth Rendell … so if you like the domestic noir set in and around mid 1900‘s .. psychological thrillers and murder and mystery … then you‘d likely enjoy her ❤️ 😁 (edited) 3mo

Adventures of Eovaai | Eliza Fowler Haywood

(1736) Set in a time before the world was remade for Adam's arrival, this is the story of the princess Eovaai who is deceived by an evil counselor and loses her kingdom and very nearly her Virtue. It's a strange book that lurches from utopian treatise to Arabian Nights pastiche to amatory-fiction shenanigans, with occasional flashes of brilliance and humor (both intentional and un-) and a generous serving of WTF?!?

This is my March #DoubleSpin
