A surprisingly engaging read! A little dry for me in description of the military operations, but personal as to the individuals involved. It was also just one d—— thing after another for Caesar and the Romans. But for the most part, you knew Caesar would prevail, just how would he make it happen.

Side note - Ariovistus was a proper villain - his arguments back to Caesar were “oh snap”. 🤣 (I believe he appears in issue 4 of serial reader)

Caesar's first-person account of the Gallic Wars. It's very well written, which surprised me for such an ancient text, with good insight into military operations. I realize these old history narratives aren't for everyone, but this was a good read.

My March recap (by the way, I am defining March as through today as I had a couple of books to finish up.) I read 8 books & got about 40% through two more. Not as much as I wanted but it was another tough work month. I took part in 5 buddy reads & one for my book club & one for a library challenge. I actually liked most everything I read but Cultish & The Other Bennet Sister were my Top 2 favorites for the month.

March is always a tricky time of year as a student. Mid-terms are approaching so my free time gets lessened. I tried to keep my list light and low-pressure. 😊 So here‘s my #BookSpin list for March!

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it. Some will be old, some will be new - don't judge me, I have a lot of books.

Day 142th

Join the fun if you want!

It took me a while to tie this book to the previous book in the series as opposed to other books with similar themes but once I had done so it was a fascinating portrait of Caesar during the conquest of Gaul, and by no means a complimentary one.

However, the character of Fronto bothers me. Despite frequent binges, he is never, ever, wrong, which is starting to get on my nerves a bit.
