Murder, She Wrote: Three Strikes and You're Dead | Jessica Fletcher, Donald Bain
post image
Pickpick

Jessica is in Arizona cheering on the foster son of friends when murder happens. Of course it does—she attracts murder wherever she goes! The darker side of baseball is revealed, with sex, drugs, and gambling, not to mention prejudice and power purchased by wealth. Good escape reading. My April choice for #ThematicCozies

1. Overall, rather anxious and disregulated. Having a hard time focusing on much at all. But the sun is shining, so that's something.

2. Binge watching Taskmaster Series on YouTube. There is very little that makes me cry tears of joyous laughter as readily as that.

@Kerrbearlib

Jari-chan Taskmaster has helped me through a lot of hard times. And good ones too. 2d

Fun and quick read about the guys who made watching arguments entertaining. 👍🏼 I always enjoyed “Siskel & Ebert” — they were smart, sharp and opinionated. In this bio Siskel comes across as a jerk, though. 👎🏼 The “pranks” he played on Ebert behind the scenes weren‘t very funny — it sounds more like bullying to me. 😖 Thanks to @JoeMo and #AuldLangSpine for putting this one on my radar!

Great Star Trek read about how they made the aliens and artifacts for the shows! The last part tells you how to make your own aliens and artifacts!

Funny Girl | Nick Hornby

Early 2025 was truly my own my own winter of discontent (second drumpf term, having to move in the middle of Feb, covid for the second time etc etc) Hornby's novel about a winner of a beauty queen pageant in a British village who proceeded to revolutionize tv has so far been one of my favorite reads of the year. Sophie Straw is absolutely terrific & the cast who surround her are in turns interesting & infuriating. This books has MUCH to say (CONT)

vivastory about the potential of thoughtful mass media, all too easily dismissed & those who only want to consume it if they can apply a label to it that makes them feel superior which persists to this day (ie elevated horror: a bullshit label...unless the movie actually is set in an elevator lol)
Sophie is a character that I just cannot forget & although this is only the second Hornby I read, I absolutely adored it. #bestreads2025

TheKidUpstairs Ooh, I haven't read this one. I read a bunch of Hornby's books a long time ago, and always enjoyed them. I'll have to stack this! 6d
vivastory @TheKidUpstairs High Fidelity was a great experience, Do you have other favorites? Def taking recommendations! 6d

TheKidUpstairs @vivastory it's been about 20 years since i last read him (i can hardly believe that, even as i type it!) But I loved About A Boy, and Fever Pitch. And Polysyllabic Spree was fun, a collection of his magazine columns missing on his reading life. 6d
TheKidUpstairs (That should say musing, not missing 🤦‍♀️) 6d

Liz_M I found the tagged surprisingly thought provoking. 5d

Mel is an idol, but this book wasn‘t everything it could‘ve been. The subtitle you see about his remarkable life in show business is true, and he‘s honest about it, you don‘t get a ton about the man‘s feelings. I loved reading about his early life and wartime adventures but then you mostly get IMDB trivia equivalents. One passage I‘m almost certain was copied from his son‘s Wikipedia page, nearly verbatim. Only for Brooks diehards.

This is a wonderful look at into the work of Adam Savage. It‘s part memoir, part science, part shop talk. It was fun to hear him talk about creating. Even though I create in a much different way than him, I took a lot away from this lovely book. It‘s funny and uplifting, encouraging everyone to nurture their inner creator.

GingerAntics The subtitle made me a little nervous, but this isn‘t a book about thinking positive and more about creating whatever it is you create with wild, passionate, abandon. 2w

Loved it. Quick, engaging read. I enjoyed learning about both Leonard and Bill through this book. A lot of great stories about their friendship. As a Star Trek fan, I did appreciate that a lot of it was about Star Trek.

To quote the Ancient Aliens meme: I don't know, therefore Aliens!
I posted about two books finished today. I'm very much enjoying the Lethem but I am thinking it will need to hibernate for now as it is not compatible with my mood/mental space etc (will def come back as it is quite good), which leaves me with me mostly a clean slate except for one story collection which I am enjoying SO MUCH I ordered the physical copy. Will review (CONT)

vivastory when finished! Have no idea what my reading mood will be tomorrow & am going to follow my mood & build my TBR for the upcoming week (loosely) around what I need to do rather than have unrealistic expectations & end up reading very little during the week.

BarbaraBB I love that you can do that, I‘m such a control freak. 3w
vivastory @BarbaraBB I have been that way for YEARS, but have had to adjust recently due to work pressures, I'm such an eclectic reader and there are so many books I want to read I realized that I need to let my mood & upcoming work schedule dictate my TBR. Otherwise I just end up staring at my phone all night 😱 3w
