I had a hard time getting into this. I kept thinking of Just Mercy, which is an incredible read and focuses on one main case. Each story here was mind-bogglingly infuriating, but started to run together for me. I should‘ve just read one story each day; should‘ve dipped in and out. My focus was off. I do think I‘d like a full book on a couple of the cases. A good nonfiction #bookclub pick regardless of my experience.

What a hard book to read! The sad truth is that it really happens in America. We put our trust in the police, prosecutors, and judges, yet some just want to win and don't care about the lives they harm. John Grisham can great fiction and nonfiction superbly. 4⭐️

😊 Happy Reading 😊

Amazing. I highly recommend for fans of true crime & mental health. Dr Adshead is a forensic psychiatrist &works w/criminals. She introduces the idea of compassion & humanity, delving into the psychology & humanizing these patients that we often label as unredeemable.

It‘s a difficult read at times. I can‘t say I felt empathy or even sympathy for all of them; however, I learned a lot & gained a better understanding of those who commit crimes.

Kristy_K I have an older version of the book as the newer ones have a new subtitle, Stories of Human Cruelty and Compassion, which I felt suited it better. 9mo

I‘d recommend reading this nonfiction of 10 distinct wrongly convicted cases in segments. It‘s heartbreaking and I have so much gratitude and respect for those passionate to take up the case and do the work fighting for justice of those wrongly accused. I don‘t use the word shame lightly - but those in the legal system who knowingly work to retain wrongly convicted to save their own reputation - shame on them. #NFN

This book was just heartbreaking to listen to. There are so many cases of wrongful convictions in our country and it is just disgusting. Our justice system is very flawed and it needs to be better. There were ten cases in this book and just hearing the stories and how the police and judges and the courts could have it so wrong just breaks my heart and quite honestly it makes me angry.

DGRachel Thanks for the reminder of this one. It is on my mental TBR and I finally remembered to put in my library hold! 10mo

It‘s always a pleasure to receive signed copies of John Grisham‘s new books from Square Books. Grisham just released his latest nonfiction book that he coauthored with Jim McCloskey, Framed: Astonishing True Stories of Wrongful Convictions. I preordered my copy, signed by both authors, from Square Books, an independent bookseller in Oxford, Mississippi. I expect this will be a good read!
