The King of Torts | John Grisham

This is full of shady high-power lawyers, pharmaceutical companies, and stock investors making as many millions as possible while a bad drug is exposed, regardless of the impact a drug has to a patient. I wanted to be done - gratuitous spending and money-grabbing is all kinds of ick. Yet, I was surprising intrigued by Washington DC public defender Clay pulled into that world and finding his way out.

marleed @TheAromaofBooks It cracks me up how often ‘author‘s canon‘ is picked as either my #BS or #DS. I believe I have 6 more JG books to go from his backlog as well as keeping up with newly published books before I will have read or reread his entire canon since my 2018 starting point. 6d
TheAromaofBooks The BookSpin fates REALLY want you to read more John Grisham 😂 6d

marleed @TheAromaofBooks Indeed! It all started when all my sisters gathered and Sister2‘s home for a reunion of sorts. Sister2 had a stack of JG paperbacks in her donation bin. I noted I liked JG books. Sister1 asked which ones, and I drew a complete blank on the title or specific story of any JG read. I silently decided then/there to read/reread his canon. Sister1 has sadly passed away, but I‘m sticking to my JG goal! 6d

What a hard book to read! The sad truth is that it really happens in America. We put our trust in the police, prosecutors, and judges, yet some just want to win and don't care about the lives they harm. John Grisham can great fiction and nonfiction superbly. 4⭐️

😊 Happy Reading 😊

The serendipity of baseball and aging engulfs this short narrative about an estranged father and son that reads like a Vin Scully anecdote between pitches of an at bat. Grisham‘s story won‘t change your life, but - like a good ball game - makes for a nice couple of hours.

I was equal parts entertained by this book and entertained by being entertained. How did JG have me root for a lawyer faking his own death leaving wife and child while funneling $90 million (1992 dollars) from his slimy law partners!? Then after 4 years he orchestrates his own arrest. I dunno, but it was good and I didn‘t give thought to this contemporary fiction being 28 years old!

Suet624 Are all of those Grisham books yours? 4mo
marleed @Suet624 They are! And get this - one book was a gift but all the rest have been thrifted since Fall 2018 for something less than $4. In a conversation with a sister when I noted I liked JG, she asked my favorite. I had no idea - couldn‘t recall what I‘d read compared to watched on screen. So I decided to read his canon. My sister passed away but I still have 8 books (they have blue tabs on the spine) yet to read. 4mo

Suet624 That‘s amazing. 4mo
marleed @Suet624 It‘s been fun. I keep up with new books as they come out so I don‘t grow the canon taller than it already is. But I have to get the new release from the library, then monitor the thrift stores or Friends of the Library for my copy after-the-fact. It‘s become a thrifting thing and I can‘t go back, but it‘s fun how quickly I find the new releases of JG in the thrifting isles 🤣 4mo
Suet624 And have you enjoyed each one? I think I‘ve only read 2 and I enjoyed them but for some reason ended up not continuing. 4mo
marleed @Suet624 yes, some more than others. What‘s intriguing in this commitment I‘ve made is not how his writing has progressed over all these books. It‘s how his language has changed. Most books are set in the South. His early books contain a liberal use of the N-word sometimes even the good guys using it. It diminishes over the years to the bad guys using the word to where it is now it‘s seldom used. Proof when we know better we do better. (edited) 4mo

I very much enjoyed seeing behind the legal profession‘s curtain🥸 I find it all very fascinating, always have. The verbal sparring etc… between the Plaintiff & Defence counsels had me LOL several times🤣 Definitely not my last Grisham or legal thriller📚🤓

CoverToCoverGirl I really enjoy Grisham! 5mo
