I'm slowly making my way through a re-read of the Essalieyan books, this time on audiobook and have reached The Riven Shield. It's hard to review the individual parts of the Sun Sword, as they are all part of the greater whole. Would I recommend them, yes, if you like epic fantasy, but start at the beginning!

As with every book in the Green Rider series, #fallinginaseaofstars brought me something I needed. It was a glorious ride and I‘ve reread it multiple times since the release date. Today my signed copy arrived from #shermansmainecoastbookshop and I can‘t wait to add it to my shelf. #kristenbritain #greenriderseries

This series is sooo good. All the books are short but pack an awesome story in. Getting ready to start this one tonight.

I don‘t have a cat…so I borrowed one. This is Ozzy, he is my daughter‘s cat. Her partner scooped him up from the middle of a busy London road as he nearly got run over: literally, a rescued cat. After an announcement on the neighbourhood chat, a visit to vet to check for a chip, he is now part of the family.Sadly he stone deaf and has a neurological issue that means he wobbles like he‘s been on the sauce. This was my first Gemmell. It was top notch

Bookwomble I'm more interested in the cat then the book 😸 Hi, Ozzy! 🐈‍⬛ 2mo
The_Book_Ninja @Bookwomble Ozzy will potentially have a friend. My daughter has the chance to get another deaf cat from RSPCA. Apparently two deaf cats can build good relationships through non verbal interactions. Fingers crossed she gets approval 2mo
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja Aww, that sounds lovely 😻 If I can be so impertinent as to suggest names: if musically inclined, perhaps either Sharon or Osborne; or, if of a poetiical nature, then Mandias 😁 Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed, too. 2mo
The_Book_Ninja @Bookwomble a name is set aside, he‘s going to be called Geezer. I think you can deduce the musical connection. He‘s been taken off the RSPCA list so we‘re hoping it‘s because he‘s going to be coming to my daughter 2mo
Bookwomble @The_Book_Ninja TBH, I had to look it up as I'm not a Sabbath fan, but, yes, totally appropriate 🤘😁 Here's hoping little Geezer soon has their forever home 💖 2mo

Happy New Release Day! And what a glorious one it is! I‘ve been looking forward to the next book in the Green Rider series for so long. I‘m all at once savoring my first read through, while fighting the impulse to devour it in 24 hours. #kristenbritain #greenrider #fallinginaseaofstars #newreleaseday

DNF- I was having trouble wanting to pick this up. I was excited to read about a dragon, and it does have the dragon, a wolf, a cat, a magician, and a strong woman with a past. Everything you could want, but there was mention of men‘s work, woman‘s work, and she is in hiding because maybe her husband who abused her? I went 100 pages in and it‘s just not grabbing my attention. As an inherited book it‘s time to let someone else enjoy it.

I enjoyed it for the most part, though it is a mixed bag in terms of a Ravenloft novel. The POV format was underutilized for most of the book, and the bonding between the characters felt a bit forced (probably due to it being a standalone and not a lot of time to develop the characters more) it's more of a character driven story, but it could have greatly benefitted from a basic plot or a substantial goal for the characters to follow.
