As a #longtimefed I served under 7 POTUS. I only voted for 3 of them, but I did my job the same regardless. I took an oath to uphold the Constitution when I first joined the government and every time I moved to another office. My employer was the American people and not POTUS.

Higher level managers and administrators are already political appointees. There‘s no need to root out the “disloyal” employees. The result would be the real “deep state.”

Chelsea.Poole Thank you for sharing. 2d
Leftcoastzen I worked as a contract worker for NPS & also a NPO connected to a historical park. This is insanity. All workers I knew could have made more money in private sector, service was part of the job that made it more meaningful! 2d
Leftcoastzen They are not hiring seasonal workers for places like Yosemite & Yellowstone which cannot function w/o them. Did not catch where , was listening to NPR . They didn‘t hire seasonal firefighters so a prescribed burn to protect wild/urban interface is abandoned. It was the only window to do the prescribed burn till next year , obviously raised risk for everyone. 2d

Susanita @Leftcoastzen You‘re kind of stealing my thunder for future posts 😉 but that‘s okay! I was pleased (if that‘s the right word under the circumstances) that some of the protests this week happened at NPS sites such as the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. 2d
Leftcoastzen Yosemite too! It‘s been many years so probably won‘t be stealing too much of your thunder! 😏 6k IRS workers, really?! 2d
Susanita @Leftcoastzen Laying off IRS workers in the middle of tax season! WTAF! They are the weirdest mix of unspeakably evil and unbelievably stupid. 2d
Leftcoastzen I hate the thought but starting to think the goal is totally break it , declare martial law . 2d

I've discovered these fun murder mystery jigsaw puzzles. You read a short story, similar to a cozy mystery then put puzzle together for clues to solve the murder. The puzzle is not what's on the box so you're putting it together blind. I've pixeled out the puzzle underneath so no hints lol

AnnCrystal 🆒🧩 bought my mom the, Murder She Wrote ones years ago. We never did try these...we should 🤩👍💝. 4d

Funny, weird characters and a monkey... It could only happen in Florida.

Went to pick up a bunch of holds from the library (research for some BR end of the year lists) and couldn't help snagging one bonus book and checking out the gorgeous new art they've added in a recent (and on-going) remodel

Going to try to come back to reviews. Of course, I‘m starting with a hard book I didn‘t understand. I just couldn‘t grasp the why of this book. The Blake Crouch-ish aspects started way too late to pack a punch.

A woman moves back to Florida with her husband to care for her parents. She flashes back to times in an asylum there and works on her relationship for her sister but is flummoxed when the sister goes missing.

Chelsea.Poole I‘ve missed you ♥️ 4mo

marleed Welcome home💕 4mo
BarbaraBB Happy to see you‘re reviewing again! I have a mixed relationship with Van den Berg, the blurb is always great yet the execution lacks a bit imo 😘 4mo
Megabooks @marleed thank you! Glad to be back! 💙 3mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB same! Her novels sound so good but rarely deliver for me. Glad to be back! 💜😘 (edited) 3mo

The novel that was inspiration of a pretty darn good Apple + television series.

Well written, but rather strange story of a swamp-living family and a search for resolution after grief. Kind of blunt and somewhat off-putting in a poetic way.
Could be a little shorter too. It took me a while to read.

A lush And deeply idiosyncratic book, State of Paradise is a post-Florida pandemic world, but feels so intimate that you can be in this quirky and mournful book. A ghost(writer), pet ghosts, cats, VR meditations (portals?), and family. The observational diary prose is what sold me; I was already hooked on what bizarre Florida story this would be…but bizarre is a beautiful way. A must read!
