This is the first Carl Hiaasen book I‘ve ever read. I‘ve heard he was funny — something I was in the mood for — so I thought I‘d check him out. Indoor #audiowalk because it was 90° outside at 8:00pm.

Decided to go ahead and listen to this one since I'm on vacation in Key West and Vince Vaughn has been filming here for the upcoming movie. Some have seen him hanging around town... even cruising around on a bike. We saw filming from a distance, but no sighting of the actual crew. 😒

Went into this book blindly, other than the title and a short review. Had never heard of the author. Having finished it I would say this is a great read. It‘s a comedic mystery and I would not have guessed the twist towards the last 1/4 of the book. It‘s a fast read in which you won‘t want to put it down. Definitely a pick. Will probably be reading his other books now as well.

On the hottest day of July, trolling in the dead-calm waters near Key West, a tourist named James Mayberry reeled up a human arm.

#bookspin for March. Set in Key West and the Bahamas. In addition to a former detective now unhappily working as a restaurant food inspector, a kinky coroner, a voodoo queen, and real estate speculators, a monkey claimed to have been in Johnny Depp‘s Pirates movie has a central role in book. I loved Hiaasen when I read him years ago but now his characterizations of women (manipulative or bimbos) annoy me and the plots are formulaic.
Tagged book is #bookspin and Witchmark is #doublespin for March. Planning to get them both read this month. @TheAromaofBooks
#latitude reminds me of Jimmy Buffett (🎶changes in latitude, changes in attitude🎶) which reminds me of Carl Hiaasen. Bad Monkey is my favorite of his.

It was only after picking this book that I learned Bad Monkey should not be my introduction to Hiaassen. Is the plot why? Learning who the killers are and why they did it but then spending 75% of the book following Health Inspector Yancy as he tries to build a case? That's right, health inspector. How does a Health Inspector get away with investigating a murder? I guess I'll never know because this book went back to the library.
The library I work at is having a book sale & all proceeds go to helping the library of course I had to go be supportive. Wont lie Bad Monkey was a total cover/title buy. I have never read anything by Carl Hiaasen but I am always open to trying new things.
The only book I've read with a voodoo witch. Unless...I bet Wide Sargasso Sea had voodoo. Haha

This disembodied, fanged monkey in a pirate hat creeps me out! #creepycovers #booktober
Sunday afternoon with Carl Hiaasen and peppermint tea, colour me happy.
My first excursion into Hiaasen and great fun it was too. Like a sort of mellower, American version of Christopher Brookmyre. Will definitely investigate further.
If this is your first Hiaasen, stop. Start somewhere else. Although humorous, this is not his best.
