Finished this in one day. While it does have some elements that often lack in YA (wlw relationship, human trafficking, sexual assault, lots of Asian rep) it suffers from the typical faults that YA often has. Clumsy characterization, weird twists, etc.

so-soIt was eh. I'm not too thrilled but I don't think it was terrible. I think the main romance would have functioned and made a much better impression as a friendship rather than romantic love. I think it was just put in there for representative purposes. The culture was interesting, and it was so refreshing to see a character WHO WAS NOT THE CHOSEN ONE!

Not entirely loving «Girls of Paper And Fire» so far, but not entirely hating it either. Problem is that I‘ve read a lot of books like this lately.

That said, this book has many likeable qualities, and it‘s better than I feared. The start was great. Also, I like the concept of human versus demon castes. The whole forced-concubine-thing is starting to become a little overused for my taste, though.
