Girls of Storm and Shadow
Girls of Storm and Shadow | Natasha Ngan
In this mesmerizing sequel to the New York Times bestselling Girls of Paper and Fire, Lei and Wren have escaped their oppressive lives in the Hidden Palace, but soon learn that freedom comes with a terrible cost. Lei, the naive country girl who became a royal courtesan, is now known as the Moonchosen, the commoner who managed to do what no one else could. But slaying the cruel Demon King wasn't the end of the plan---it's just the beginning. Now Lei and her warrior love Wren must travel the kingdom to gain support from the far-flung rebel clans. The journey is made even more treacherous thanks to a heavy bounty on Lei's head, as well as insidious doubts that threaten to tear Lei and Wren apart from within. Meanwhile, an evil plot to eliminate the rebel uprising is taking shape, fueled by dark magic and vengeance. Will Lei succeed in her quest to overthrow the monarchy and protect her love for Wren, or will she fall victim to the sinister magic that seeks to destroy her? I finished the first book in 4 days and I wish I had finished the second one sooner because it was just as good. Such an unexpected ending and now I can‘t wait to read the 3rd and final book in this trilogy! Highly recommend!

Only 187 pages left to read.. since having my little boy all my free time has gone towards sleeping and changing dirty nappies so I‘ve been keeping my mind busy reading while he feeds on me. Hopefully I‘ll have more time to read in the new year and I have no shortage of books to choose from thanks to @Lizpixie

Book 2-Leí, Wren, Caen, Bo, Nitty & Merrin will go around different villages to find allies for Hanno‘s kingdom because the King is dead. Is he really dead?🤔Story was ok. Real action came too late in the book. Dragging the story just to have a trilogy? Mmm, maybe. You will see love between different characters, lies, betrayals, false impressions, some funny parts but also grief. Lei is not easy, she‘s impulsive but never losing who she is. 3.4⭐️

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.

Another catch up review from last month. This novel is incredible. It‘s prequel “Girls of Paper and Fire” by Natasha Ngan was sooo good but this one exceeded. I cannot wait for the third book to come out later this year.

If you like fantasy you need to read this series!

Still some deep (maybe triggering) moments but it doesn't take away from the action!

Was pretty good. I liked the first one a bit more but this one was pretty good. We meet a few new side characters but I didn‘t feel as attached to them as I did Lei or Wren. So some things that happened didn‘t affect me too harshly but still sad moments. Some things about them surprised me. The cliffhanger ending on this really gets me. And I have no idea when the last book is out. 😭

Waiting for the 3rd book, Girls of Fate and Fury is going to be torture. I need it like, yesterday.

Girls of Storm and Shadow was so good, it may have even been better than Paper and Fire! It's been a while since I have encountered a book world so fantastically engrossing.

The first book was so promising!! The sequel reduced a story about overcoming PTSD from sexual trauma with dumb jokes, pointless plot tread, and character assassinations. 🙄 Won‘t be pursuing the eventual third book.

xxjenadanxx Nooo don't say that! I'm about to start this one! 4y
Melismatic @xxjenadanxx I hope you like it more! Honestly a big part of the prob was the audiobook, the narrator is lifeless. But yeah, I wasn‘t a fan of this one. 😭 4y

I'm so obsessed with this series! Lei and Wren are back and both are dealing with the aftermath of their sexual assaults. There's a bunch of new characters and they're trying to gain allies before the Demon King attacks Wren's family. #YA #fantasy

This is my 270th book of the year, & definitely my last completed read of the year/decade! This sequel is an enjoyable one -picks up almost immediately after the conclusion of the first book- though it ends on a cliffhanger! Still the snowy opening felt appropriate for this snowy day here- I hope the wait isn‘t too long for the conclusion! This is a dark middle for the trilogy, but definitely engaging & fascinating! #WinterGames #ReadNosedReindeer

This one wasn‘t as good as I was hoping it was going to be. I found myself getting really bored with the story. It lost the spark that book one had. I‘m hoping book three will be better.

So, last week was a LONG and rough work week. Yesterday was very rainy but I had to go out and do a little Christmas shopping as well as run some normal errands. And... I was a bit naughty. I went into B&N and came out with 4 books for myself! I just couldn't help it. 👇

tracey38 Really, my sister is the only one who still buys me Christmas presents and I know she won't buy me books even if I ask. 🤔 I needed a pick-me-up so here it is! But now I don't know which to start next! 4y

#113 of my year. Book 1 was great although I didn‘t like the main character. The other characters she meets along the way are more interesting and badass. I hope she grows tougher in this one.

Caffeinated_Reader That was epic! The battle scenes were bloody and evenly matched with death on all sides. It was super fast paced and exciting. I love how Wren took the lead in this story a bit more than Lei. Although I don‘t like the direction Wrens character was being driven. I still think she‘s great. 4y
Caffeinated_Reader Lei is still an annoying character. She gets in the way too much, I know she‘s trying to help and develop as a warrior and all buuuut uggggh! She distracts people and just makes everyone have to come to her rescue. I honestly feel like she did have great character development and will be a huge badass in the next book. 4y
Caffeinated_Reader I am dying to know what the heck happened on the island. Lova was a great character too. Idk about how I feel about the characters that died. I was pissed. I most definitely look forward to the final book in this trilogy. 4y

Def suffers from Second Book Syndrome as it‘s basically just “journey journey FIGHT journey journey FIGHT” as well as a few too many plot conveniences. But at least some of the journeying & fighting moved the plot along, & I appreciated the new complications in Lei & Wren‘s relationship, as well as seeing Wren‘s darker side. Just hope the 3rd book is the last & Ngan doesn‘t pull a “Now it‘s a 14 book series!!!” on us like some authors 😒 3/5 ⭐️

BOOOOOOOOO JFC STOP USING THIS PHRASE! I swear, I think YA authors are purposely writing this now because they know how much everyone hates it and they think it‘s funny or something. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

LinesUponAPage I agree. It just isn‘t as descriptive as they think. 4y

Okay I have book 1 and still have not read it. Unfortunately I like this cover, but do not think it has the graphic punch of book one. It seems more, been there done that. It doesn't stand out in the crowd. Almost like it belongs to a decade ago with the Vampire Academy and Morganville vampire novels.

There is a pre-order campaign for this book if you are interested (I got an email yesterday).

LibrarianRyan @silentrequiem for me the James Patterson Presents books are really hit or miss. I can‘t guarantee I will like them or that they are worth the read. However they have hired a great graphic artist for the covers. I wish it was more like Rick Riordan Presents. I have yet to read a dud or a so so book from his imprint. 4y
