Bookwormjillk It was fun to revisit his earlier stories and see him start to play with some of his longer books and themes. My dad had the version with the eyeball hand on the cover when I was a kid and I always had nightmares about it. Also Children if the Corn was a sleepover favorite so yay for nostalgia. 4d
AllDebooks I enjoyed this collection. As @Bookwormjillk said, it's fun seeing the formation of his longer works. Children of the corn was so creepy. X 4d

TieDyeDude I was surprised to see him flirt with sci-fi with I Am the Doorway. He doesn't seem to play in that sandbox too often. I liked the "bad deal" stories, Quitters Inc, The Ledge, Lawnmower Man. Lawnmower, Trucks, and Mangler were pretty silly ? I found Last Rung ? maybe the most memorable. It had an aching sweetness to it, but I seem to like unrequited/unreciprocated love stories for some reason... 4d
BarkingMadRead @alldebooks children of the corn has always creeped me out! The movie is so messed up! @TieDyeDude yes! Mangler was so silly at the end 🤣 4d
Balibee146 Oh I love that edition. I didn't pick up Night Shift last month sadly but I do like it as a collection. I really enjoy King short stories 😍 4d
LoverOfLearning Just recently started reading SK! Long list of books to read 😩 4d
kwmg40 I enjoyed these stories, especially because, as @Bookwormjillk mentioned, we can see themes that King expands on in future books. Like several of you here, I too found Children of the Corn very creepy. 2d

5feet.of.fury It‘s soooo long,but I‘ve wanted to read this one for a long time…. 😩 1w
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury it‘s my favorite book of all time, it‘s so epic! 1w
kwmg40 I'm not sure if, like @BarkingMadRead, I'd call this my favourite book of all time (though I can certainly appreciate readers making that argument) but it's definitely my favourite of the Stephen King books I've read. I'm looking forward to the reread. 1w
bekakins Just discovered this readalong! King is my favourite author so would love to join in! I last read the stand during Covid….. Scarrrryyyyyyyy!!! 1w

julesG This one hit different than when I first read it, even than when I last read it for #OokBOokClub, thanks to the current events. 4w
BookmarkTavern Yeah, this one hits differently. So one of my favorite things that sticks out to me was Adora Belle saying “It's not a lie. It's what ought to have been true.” It reminded me of the idea that we read nonfiction to learn facts, but we read fiction to learn truth. 4w

julesG @BookmarkTavern Adora Belle might not have the biggest roll in the book, but she has a lot of wisdom to share. 4w
BookmarkTavern @julesG She does! And after Sybil and Vimes, she and Moist are my favorite of Pratchett‘s romantic relationships. And it‘s because of how it‘s set up in this book. Adora Belle is a puzzle Moist can‘t figure out, a person he can‘t charm, and it evolves so beautifully into him caring what she thinks about him. That scene in the restaurant where he calms her down by teasing her about the proper knife? Chef‘s kiss. 4w
kwmg40 I enjoyed this one but I agree that current events made me wince at some of the situations in the book. 4w
julesG @kwmg40 I'm reading a Sci-Fi heist novel right now and the parallels to current events is astounding. As @BookmarkTavern said, we read fiction to learn the truth. 3w
willaful It definitely hits me harder now than when I first read it. Especially given that his solution to a Trump seems to be.. a somewhat better Trump. 😬

Still absolutely love the book and think it one of his very best. The main characters have a lot more to them than Rincewind has.
3w
julesG @willaful Yes, to the "a lot more to them than Rincewind". He's not one of my favourites. 3w
